Not quite how I remembered it.

I enjoyed parts of it but Conn's sanctimoniousness was the abiding impression it left with me.Is the David Conn book “Richer than God” worth a read or is it a constant slag off of our owners and club?
I’ll give it a miss then and stick to my Greek mythology books.Just reading this at the moment. The more I read the more he pisses me off.
Although he professes to be a City fan in his youth he singles out City as spoiling the game and says the council allowed City to destroy East Manchester. He doesn’t use the phrase but he accuses our owners of Sports washing.
He thinks City fans are desperate in thanking our owners (on a banner) and says we should have done a United in revolting against the Sheikh - as an example he devotes a whole chapter on FC United of Manchester (Norwich reserves), Oh and the way we treated Mark Hughes was classless and disgraceful.
He’s very much a jumpers for goalposts man living in the world of football when you could turn up in the day and pay at the turnstiles. He can’t understand why City fans who won nothing for 37 years have turned their back on Manchester
Read the first gazza book which was incredible and also the Paul merson book " how not to be a professional footballer"

Agreed, it's a really good read. He's not a City player, but I really enjoyed Tony Cascarino's autobiography. It was very honest and very surprising. He basically ends up in a lot of pain playing in a poor team in France. It also turns out he wasn't eligible to play for Ireland and some people wanted to strip him of his caps. He lays it bare on what he earned and goes through the highs and lows of player. Considering he was around in the start of the PL, he both earned a lot relative to the players just before him and not much compared to the ones a few years later. It's a great book!
Oh god, that cover has triggered a 50 year old memory cell in my brain.First book I can remember reading as a kid around 1975. It was also a series on the BBC. Happy days!

Long years and potless bloody predictive textLoved my Lancashire football annual 1970, City double trophy winners, Mercer plus Allison equals success. Nothing positive to say about United they were spotless and remained so for seven lo nh years. Wigan , Fleetwood, Accrington and Morcambe non league. Blackpool promoted to First Division. Only one lancy team 4th division, Barrow and Southport 3rd division. Still got it a great present thanks dad.
