Where would you rank last night in terms of disappointments?

Still so upset by it that i could barely raise a smile even as the NY Mets made a similarly staggering come back, seven runs in the top of the 9th, to beat Philadelphia on Thursday night.

You are right, we should have won it at least once in the last 3 or 4 years. For me the absence of a top striker has killed us, we miss too many chances, first leg this time being a perfect example. We are a superior side to Real, but they had Benzema, and ultimately that was the difference.
 
It’s still too raw and recent to put into perspective for me. Atm, it feels like it’s top of the list, but then so did the Utd 2-3 for the PL, the Owen 3-4, the CL Final and the Spurs CL QF.

In time, I’m sure it’ll sort itself into the mix, but today it’s #1 and still very, very painful.

Relegation almost felt like “but, of course” at the time, even though it hurts, but when you are literally the best team in the world and lose what would have been one of the best SFs ever seen over two legs, putting us into a “Best 2 teams in the world” Champions League Final, it just sucks all the air out of you.

Now, ask me again at the end of the PL season and I hope I still feel the same way, because a crushing defeat in the PL over the next 4 games may well top the lot!
 
Dippers losing the CL final and us winning the league will ease the pain! If they lose FA cup final as well, happy days!

We're not being let forget it with the BBC constantly showing Pleat running on to our pitch. They don't show him being chased off twice as fast. Also that f*****g Ricky Villa goal at the cup final replay wouldn't mind but it wasn't even the best goal in the match. Our triumphs never shown our disasters never off the screen. They will be showing Madrids comeback in 20 years.
 
This is the worst (City related) disappointment since 1983.

As others have said hindsight may have dulled previous disappointments (mainly in the 1990’s) but whilst they hurt there was awareness that we were a joke on and off the field ( but not on the terraces) so in a way it was perhaps inevitable that we would fail.

3 reasons make Madrid so disappointing. I loathe the Champions League. It feels like being part of a (cartel) club which we are not welcome even by our own media. So to win it would be great and in the face of such sniping a real achievement. It feels like the last hurdle.

Second reason is the nature of defeat on Wednesday. I am a pessimist but at 90 mins I couldn’t envisage what followed

The third reason which will hopefully prove to be groundless is that I fear the defeat is going to have a knock on effect on the league and we end up with nothing. So as well as the disappointment of that we will be witness to a summer media orchestrated gloating.

The one positive is that we have a brilliant manager and a great team. Plus our owners will based on past experience do the necessary to lift us.

That Luton game , watching David Pleat running onto the pitch in his brothel creepers haunts me to this day.
