Which players are no longer good enough?

Now is maybe the time to cash in on Silva and maybe a couple of others. Neither versions of FFP are dead and both raising extra transfer funds and clearing the wages by moving older players on while they still have value might not be a bad idea in the medium term.

I would not be totally surprised to see Silva, Nasri, Zabs, Yaya or Kompany (although no doubt he will get crocked with Belgium) moving on in the next two windows, as well as the more obvious players like Navas, Sagna, Willy, Fernando, Bony and Kolorov. If with promotions and signings we can comfortably meet the various HG requirements then Clichy and Delph can also go.

One of Otty or Mangala seem certain to go if only to make room for a new signing and Denny.

I suspect the turnover this summer is going to be a lot more than we might expect.
Perhaps. I think Silva will be great in what would have been the Nasri role this year has he been healthy. If we get 2 players like Gundogan and Pogba/Isco add Silva to that mix, and that gives us a core of highly technical and interchangeable CMs for the 2 CM positions. Add DeBryune to that list and we'll be well stock( as he would probably interchange BTW playing on the wings and playing in the middle.). We have a beefy of probable DMs inthe Ferns, Delph, and any of the ball playing CBs

On the wings we are probably weaker than most realize (unless some kids in EDS are about to go bunkers) We have an underdeveloped Sterling, an under productive Navas, and 3 AM who sometimes play on the wing in Silva/Nasri/DeBryune. We probably need a proper goalscoring winger to ad competition and urgency to that area.

Well, I am going to throw in a very high profile name - Vinnie.

Not naming him because he isn't good enough, but more because we need stability and with Vinnie's worsening injury record, we can no longer assume he will be available when needed.

Big changes ahead when pep rocks up and I suspect there will be a lot of wtf is Pep thinking about selling x, y or z.

No sentiment from me, if he keeps missing games, then he has to go. I've already said Yaya, Silva, Zab and Kolarov, and if the team is to evolve then I can't see any of them surviving.

I would agree and would throw others into that list as well. The squad needs refreshing and it makes sense to give Pep the maximum amount of time with new players rather than ship them in over several windows.

Who?

Some are beyond redemption and their departure would be addition by subtraction.
Others deserve a long look with improved fitness/coaching before a final decision made.
There certainly won't be 7-8 seniors going in 1 transfer window IMO. (Not including Willy, Demi, Edin and Jovetic in that BTW).

1 RB
1/2 LB
1/2 CB
2 of Yaya/Nando/Nasri/Delph
Bony

Bony
Delph
Joe (or Willy & make Joe fight for his place against musch sterner competition)
You'll get plenty of arguments on here about Hart.

Bony, well I'd be stunned if anyone didn't want to see the back of him.

Delph - he runs around, but I could find someone on my local park to do that. Quality? Well, I'm not particularly sure he has it. I suppose where he's concerned, the money we spent meant he was a no brainier.

I'd get even more if I'd put Sterling too :)

That lad's a conundrum. Had his injury, so we'll see how he gets on now. In my opinion, I don't think he's shown much for the outlay, but I'm happy to wait and see how he gets on in a fully fit squad.

I have nothing against Vinnie and agree he is the best in the business when fit. If he is going to miss large chunks due to injury, pep may have a different view to yours
I'm sure Pep isn't daft. So I think his view will be similar.

I can't believe anyone is even considering wanting Sterling gone. He's been with us for one season, he's 21, homegrown and despite often being a sub or subbed has already got about 12 assists and 8 goals. Plus we spent nearly £50m on him - he'll get better and better under Pep and be in our team for the next ten years.

I'm not sure that's the way the squad will be handled or we can stay within FFP without cashing in on some players. Players like Pogba are going to cost and be paid fabulous sums.

Nasri is a frustrating player. He's looking great at the moment but all too often he has been ineffectual. Another who is not getting younger or more valuable. Or any less injury prone.

We cannot and probably shouldn't have two superstars for every position. It blocks the route up from our Academy and leads to rotation for rotation's sake.

Agree with you on the flank thing. It would not surprise me to see Aguero playing more like Messi has been, coming in from wide with another world class striker in the centre.

We certainly need three regular goal scorers in the front 3 or 4 so there's no place for Navas. Hopefully Stirling will continue to push on in this area as well.

It's going to be an exciting close season for all concerned.

Good post Steve. Kun on the right is an interesting thought

Seeing the injury record of Kompany and all the noise which Hummels is making , I will not be surprised if Hummels shares the cab with Gundagon from Dortmund to MAnchester
