Which players are no longer good enough?

Not sure why, but I have a funny feeling that we will see 1 or 2 surprise promotions from The Academy this summer.
It's just a hunch , but I reckon Pep will make some 'unknown' kid a superstar.
Here's hoping.

Same here, can't wait for it. We may even be treated to the debut of Brahim.

This summer gone: Toure, MDM, Kolarov, Bony

Toure - been great & still prone to greatness but we can't rely on him anymore, time to move on.
Demichelis - did his job last couple seasons, should've gone last summer - this one should be 100%.
Kolarov - isn't good enough & never has been, his lack of defensive ability, or any real ability other than dead ball situations will see him out the door I assume.
I still believe there's a good player in Bony, just not a player for a team like ours. Absolutely doesn't suit the way we play & can't see him getting much if any game time next season if he stays.

Navas whilst nothing special is still a great squad player & substitute to have - don't see why people are calling for him to leave. Need workhorses in a squad in my opinion, I'd keep him.
Zabaleta clearly struggled this season, but has had some big injuries. I'd give him another year at least given his experience & attitude, at worst he'll be a good personality for the dressing room & deputy to whoever is first choice.

A lot of you are going to be mightily dissapointed when we don't scrap the majority of the team, cloud cuckoo land

One way of thinking about it karen is based around the number of players recruited or brought internally into the first team squad. It will give us a bigger clue to the number that will actually leave - no club will keep more than 24 players in the squad. You are right though some will be surprised over those who leave and very disappointed about a couple that will remain.

Unless pep is watching all our games and deciding with advice who he wants to keep and who to let go then i just can't see a huge clearout thanks to the summer tournaments eating up pre-season time,if it was a free summer then probably more would go because pep would have been able to assess them at his leisure

Hard question because if we would really get rid all of the players that are not Guardiola type of players or just are getting on and they are over their peak performances we would be selling around 10-12 first team players. Or more.

I think thats a huge thing to do in one summer, maybe not even possible, and probably wont happen.

I wouldnt keep Kolarov, Yaya, Demchelis, Bony, Caballero, Delph, and big questions about Zaba, Sagna (if Pep keeps Zaba does he want an other older RB or a younger...), Navas, Nasri...

Extremely hard to manage such a big transfer window, only Gundogan seems to be very close to me now, good start but I hope a summer like we had at the start of Pellegrini era when Navas, Negredo, Fernandinho all were here around middle of June and the agreement about their transfers were made probably already in May.
So it should be a busy time for Txiki, can see we already will have 3-5 new players joined when still no one had left which will put pressure on us to start offloading them cheaper and cheaper.

I can see some of our rivals taking advantage of Chinese market with some crazy deals while we struggle to fight with Serie A clubs that we only get paid 10% of the fee but only with option to buy anyway lol.

In order of need to replace.....

kolarov
Yaya
Bony
Navas
Fernando
Zaba

I could name more but I don't think it will be realistic.

I think it's interesting that some players who the press have already decided are likely leaving this summer (Mangala, Fernando, Nasri) are stepping up and seem to be fighting for their place, while others (Kolarov, Yaya) are giving the impression they have packed it in and are giving in. Others, like Zaba, are publicly acknowledging that they may be moving on.

Mangala's rise in confidence over the past 3 weeks has been so sudden I actually feel he may have been told something behind the scenes.

If the academy is utilised, the HG quota becomes redundant very quickly.

as long as the academy player or players have been with the academy for 3 seasons though i believe?

I wont lie, i dont know a heck of a lot about a lot of our youth players, so i wont know who and who arent eligible?

I trust the club and Pep to know what they are doing anyway! :-)

i agree.

i am pretty sure the likes of manu garcia and jack byrne have been at the club for three or more seasons after this one. that will make them homegrown.

both should get a look in.

well i think the vast majority of us would like to see youth given a chance in some capacity. Would be great if we could unearth a gem or two in the near future.
