Same here but it wasn't broadcast live in colour anyway so even if you'd had a colour TV it would have been in black and white. It was my ninth birthday just over a week before the final. Can’t disagree but we didn’t get a colour tv till 1970 which just made Mexico 70 come to life and stick in my memory
Were you there?1930
Clive Thomas blowing the final whistle as Brazil scored a winning goal, promptly disallowing it and walking off the pitch waving his arms. Peru 3-1 Scotland and Cubillas amazing free kick with outside of boot. Willie Johnston banned for taking drugs, said drugs melting under studio lights. Argentina 6-0 (and a ship load of grain) Peru. Kerchief plaster cast.I can remember one or two snippets of the 74 World Cup but definitely the 78 Argentina one for me. 'Exotic' location, the ticker tape streaming down from the stands, Archie Gemmill, my first Panini World Cup sticker album and too young to be anything other than totally oblivious to the political backdrop. Still remember playing football in Chaddy Park with us all pretending to be Kempes or Luque and doing David Coleman commentaries. One nil!
