The first one I remember, Argentina 78, a magical tournament with incredible crowds, music and that Holland team. Also the USA 94 one because I had a big bet on Brazil
Maybe viewing in the pubs took a lot of the excitement away.Is it just me or did every one post the 1990s become bland and boring. I struggle to remember anything about them.
Definitely. Probably an age thing, but some of the magic that defined those big sporting events (Olympics in 1980 and 84; World Cup in 78-90) has been lost in the modern era.Big sporting events were generally better pre-nineties I find and the World Cup is no different. Italia '90 was probably the last decent WC for me, the American one was only decent for the Jack Charlton underdog Irish team angle and France '98 because England threatened to be potential winners, but at the cost of the squad being full of rags. I struggle to remember where 2002 was held without googling it, or many of the ones after. I know there have been ones in Japan/S Korea, S Africa, Russia, Germany (maybe) but it's all a blur as to which year goes with which. Did Brazil have one?
