Which world cup was your personal favourite

The first one I remember, Argentina 78, a magical tournament with incredible crowds, music and that Holland team. Also the USA 94 one because I had a big bet on Brazil

74 Germany and 78 Argentina.
Holland beaten in two finals and by a disastrous Scotland side in 78.
Argentinian home games was a great spectacle
Pundits were far better as well and all games watched in the house.
70 Mexico can only remember watching England v Brazil,West Germany and the final live.
Mexico 86 brilliant as well.Maradona and football live in the early hours of the morning.

Maybe viewing in the pubs took a lot of the excitement away.

England being shit

Big sporting events were generally better pre-nineties I find and the World Cup is no different. Italia '90 was probably the last decent WC for me, the American one was only decent for the Jack Charlton underdog Irish team angle and France '98 because England threatened to be potential winners, but at the cost of the squad being full of rags. I struggle to remember where 2002 was held without googling it, or many of the ones after. I know there have been ones in Japan/S Korea, S Africa, Russia, Germany (maybe) but it's all a blur as to which year goes with which. Did Brazil have one?

Definitely. Probably an age thing, but some of the magic that defined those big sporting events (Olympics in 1980 and 84; World Cup in 78-90) has been lost in the modern era.

Might also be related to FIFA corruption, endless "Official this/that/the other" of the Word Cup and all the betting/beer firms jumping on the tournement like you couldn't live without them.

Oh, and having Brian Clough as a pundit was great as well.

Mexico - 1970 for me. Brazil 4 Italy 1. Great final - what an outstanding Brazilian side. Pele making up for disappointment of 66 (kicked out of it by Portugal). Semi final top notch: Italy 4 West Germany 3!. Amazing Banks save from Pele in the group stage. Lost in quarters to the Krauts 3-2 after being 2-0 up. Also 1st tournament to be televised in colour.
