It was mentioned to me a few months back and assume today's reports in Barca press are correct.
Agent Mendes reps both and has been trying to sort a compromise.
I really like Semedo.
I like him too, but again (in my opinion), it just causes such an unecessary selection headache for the club. It was the case with Danilo before and now with Cancelo.
Semedo will come in, there will be a bit of a buzz, but then when we see that he doesn't offer what Walker does, he'll play 20-25 games a season, predominantly against dross in the cups, and become unhappy with his contributions and force a move.
There will also be reports that he can act as a hybrid LB, so it makes sense due to his flexibility, but will then contribute to about 3 games at LB.
Until Walker stops being so crucial to the way we play and doesn't get 45/50 games a season like he has done since he joined, we're better offer having a quality younger player as a back up (perhaps one of our own that we've been hoarding and loaning out - Pedro Porro or our new signing Yan Couto) to allow time to develop in some cup games. If at the point Walker's declining and our backup hasn't stepped up, then is the time to go out and sign someone of Semedo's quality.
I just feel like the club doesn't often learn from it's mistakes in the transfer market when there are so many more pressing areas in the team.
