Who and what’s to blame?

No one is to blame.

We had 2 years of 198 points and 5 trophies, you can’t continue at that pace forever and inevitably we’ve not won the league every season.

We’ve won a trophy already this season, have a great chance to win two more and if we do, it’ll go down as arguably our greatest season ever.

6 trophies in 2.5 seasons is immense, the football we play is immense.

Sure, losing 8 games is poor by our standard but great teams burn out all the time in football, Liverpool aren’t going to be this good forever either.

Sense.

I think there are so many factors that contribute to how the season has panned out for us.

-Two seasons of such intense football and performance seems to have taken its toll this year.
-Laportes injury and less so Sane.
-David Silvas drop in performance levels
-Vinnie leaving and lack of leadership on the pitch
-The amount of crucial chances we miss in the games we have dropped points.
-Liverpools consistancy must of played a part in our performance.
-Defensively across the pitch we make far too many stupid mistakes that lead to goals.

There are plenty more and thats without going into VAR. We need a serious kick up the arse this pre season, but the one thing for me that would go a long way to fixing things is simple.

Pep signs a long term contract (3/4 years) once we are cleared by CAS. The rest will then fall into place.

Not sure about that. We're largely fit now and yet I always feel this City side is vulnerable defensively.

What are you not sure about Marvin?

Laporte doing his knee in whilst VVD played constantly?

Whilst Fern has undoubtedly been exposed at CB, I highly doubt a 35 year old is the answer to our midfield either. He shouldn’t be in the team at all. That he is, is a huge red flag on our recruitment.
Jury is out on Rodri. We need a 2nd central defender or we need one of Garcia and Rodri to come through.

We need a bit of luck now and success in the CL and FA Cup. League has been lost for ages. This can still end up being our season - it depends on the Cups.

Playing both Rodri and gundo together , soon as the team came out I said we’d loose them 2 playing together . Out of the 8 losses this season they have played together 6 maybe 7 times . It doesn’t work

I am not sure that we are OK defensively. Even with laporte in the side we still concede soft goals. See last night.

A chronic lack of pace and energy in the side. I understand we are a technical side who likes to keep the ball, but you still need off the ball movement which requires energy and recovery pace to prevent the counter attack that could arise from moving out of position.

A rapid LB and a rapid winger would transform this side alone.

You can’t win the title every season, retaining it last year was some achievement 3 in a row is equalling all time records. The concentration hasn’t been there all season and a lot of silly goals have lost us games. The dynamic of the midfield has changed with Rodri coming in, Fernandinho would set the tempo in how we would get the ball back and grind the other team down by keep attacking them.

We don’t know what the transfer activity will be like due to covid but parts of this squad needs breaking up and moving on Bravo,Silva and Sane we know are gone. I would imagine Otamendi, Stones and Cancelo will be finding pastures new too.
Weirdo.

Blame someone, has to be mahrez, the ref, the FA as it’s all fixed, erm Ferran, Fernandinho, who else? Oh Gundogan obviously. And trump.

Recruitment for sure.

We won back to back titles, we surely needed a bit of refresh and extra firepower in defence given Kompany leaving and leaving a big gap. We were after many CB's but ended up not getting any and hoping Fernandinho will be good enough. Well Fernandinho is far from a top class CB, Laporte had very bad injuries, Stones went mediocre and injured half the time, Otamendi is only good if he keeps being played next to a dominant CB but still has the rush madness in his game.

That is number one issue for me, still.

Than the whole Cancelo business, giving away a half decent Danilo who is not world class but was a good back up to Walker, so danilo pus a lot of money for Cancelo who has probably trying to leave anyway, not really settled in, he is not better at all than Danilo or Walker, Juve fans warned us and laughed that we give them so much money plus Danilo on top.
was it really a crucial business for us to change Danilo for Cancelo? Any upgrade at all? Any upgrade on Walker.

I tell you what Liverpool wont go out this summer and spend 60m on a backup for Alexander Arnold who is not very good to replace him..

Rodri I give him one more season to prove himself, but we were just used to the high energetic play of Fernandinho in DM for years and Rodri has different skillset , lot less running, energy, pace but maybe better possession/passing skills. Its just when he is coupled with Gundogan who again has no pace, energy off the ball we are pretty slow there and were punished on that front many times this season.

Then the whole Sane thing went apeshit, instead of selling him for serious money now we are left to battle for 40m euros, was injured anyway all season so we paid his salary for nothing really. If we replace him that will cost us more than we get for him. But he wants to go, pretty clear last summer it was the same case we should have cashed, kind of crazy shit decision to play him on a friendly super cup game which backfired badly...

Then the leftback problem, we brought back Angelino who is pretty good again at RB Leipzig, but loaned him out as Mendy came back from injuries but he is just not the answer, dont know if the serious injuries finished his career or he just does not have it in him but he is not a strong defender and we cant carry him as a liability when we have glaring weakness in CB front and defensive midfiield positions.

On attacking front I dont think we have many issues, D. Silva regressed badly still being played quite lot and is leaving soon, Foden should take over from him pretty quickly. Aguero is getting on, question marks still there for Jesus if he can be a 25+ goalscorer in PL if he is given 30+ games to start in PL which wont really happen imo under Pep lot of times when Kun was not available he still didnt start Jesus.

Mahrez,Sterling, Jesus are in good age should be kept together with Bernardo and KDb.

Replacing Sane is gonna cost money might be better to get a younger talent as a proven winger might find it hard to get rotated like shit as with Sane being out for gull season Bernardo, Mahrez played much more games their gametime could be cut in half or to third if we get a top winger instead of Sane who will expect to play a lot.

the search must be on in the background for a top striker tho when Kun leaves.

Priority is the defence, sort it out, 1 top CB and 1 more who replaces Stones and would not be surprised to see Otamendi to go too.
Fernandinho can only be a 4th choice CB next season or maybe 5th not 1st choice.
Same goes for LB position, make a hard decision sell Mendy (we wont get much of 50m price back) and get one with defensive skills and lot of pace.
