Who and what’s to blame?

Fuck me the state of this thread.

We simply ran out of gas after 2 years at full tilt which brought us huge huge success.

Already got a cup in the bag and on the chase for 2 more, I think whoever started this thread surely must suffer from premature ejaculation as the season is far from over.
Come back when the fa Cup and cheats Cup are done.

think OP makes some very valid points. We may still be in the cups but in regards to the league it has gone very wrong this season

We won everything last season. Was always going to be hard coming back after that and the start of the season seemed to take forever for us to get going which is a natural hangover from the huge success of the previous year. Im not feeling too low about it, this season had a transitional feel to it but we havent seemed to be on top of managing the change, almost making do. We are a great side but need to make positive changes now and be pro active with it.

Give him one more year but the recruitment lately has been poor.

Absolutely agree on the recruitment - it would be interesting to see a full list of purchases since Pep arrived and assess them all

Nolito - left very quick - dont need to say anything less
Rodri - still undecided
Mahrez - blows hot and cold
Laporte - fantastic buy
Cancelo - doesnt want to be here
Mendy - shit!
Stones - hit and miss
Walker - very good
Sane - good but doesnt want to be here
Bernardo Silva - mostly good
Ederson - good
Jesus - still open for debate in my opinion - needs to play as part of a partnership - not able to lead the line and dont think he will every hit the heights of Aguero - but a good player
Danilo - no idea what happened with him - he was good enough for me but didnt stay
gundogan - Imho a disaster like Mendy
Bravo - awful first season -good cup keeper however

This list doesnt take into account the kids and constant loanees who will probably never play for the first team

For me thats a pretty poor record and Pep has been a little lucky that he inherrited players such as Vinnie, Sergio, David Silva Zabba and KDB

Just one of those seasons...after a monumental effort in the previous 2.

We will be back stronger than ever.

Liverpool now have to adjust to defending their title against the clubs that will try harder against them next season - something they haven't been accustomed to

'Liverpool played every game like it was their last' - Guardiola says Manchester City couldn't match Reds' passion

20 Points behind the leader is simply not acceptable for a top club, and I am 100% certain utterly unacceptable to Pep and the owner.

people are hanging onto the idea we are in the cups - we are but the way we played last night we will get nowhere near the champs league (esp with our defence) and the FAC still has Chelsea and utd in it and utd have beaten us twice already this season some people seem to forget - there system of play as shit as it looks on a pitch exposes all our weaknesses

it’s called assessment pal. You don’t improve by carrying on.

Judging by all the quality opinions on here so far, you may ask yourself why you’re so out of touch with the consensus on this.

“The season is far from over”- the league is. That’s literally the reason to take stock now. Everything else is basically a cup competition and can be fluked. To win the league you need to be consistent over 38 games and we’ve already lost 8. But you think it’s odd to question “why”

Winning 2 titles isn’t an excuse. They failed to challenge for this one.

I wonder if the players have switched off after four seasons of The Pep Treatment? His management style is extremely demanding so maybe it can't be sustained indefinitely with essentially the same group of players?

This is only a thought and I have nothing to back it up with but if that is the case we either need a new squad or a new manager :)

VAR

Like others have said VAR it fucked my head after a few matches with the spurs match being the one that sent me over the edge. VAR has made me question do I still want to be a match going fan, someone who has invested so much emotionally energy into following my club. I am still not sure if I will every feel the same about football now.

If VAR fucked my head i believe it effect the players and staff, specially early season it looked like players knew they were going to get screwed over in each game. Of course once liverpool were well clear than VAR was used to try and even things up like the penalty against Burnley, early season that wouldnt have been given.

Our injuries didnt help nor not replacing Kompany, and liverpool incredible run of no real injuries for the last two seasons.

I still believe we are the best team in the league liverpool dont play great football, we just need an even playing field next season.
