Who can we actually class as world class players?

shilton played for england for far too long i agree with that, i always blamed him for the hand of god goal over maradonna, he should never have been beaten in the air.
corrigan still wasn't better than jennings, who imo was the best british keeper around at the time, so wouldn't have started in a world XI. then there's the likes of sepp meier who was a better keeper than joe aswell. any of them 2 or even more would have kept joe out of a world XI in the 70's, i still don't say joe was world class, undoubtedly a good keeper, just not world class.
I always thought joe and shilton should have been fighting for englands no1 jersey, and not shilton and clemence, like i said before, clemence imo was only being picked because he played for liverpool.
I just think when it comes to saying someone was world class, it's said a little too loosely at times.

Well Mucka it appears you've now got fat Joe down to a possible 4th/5th in line of goalkeepers of his era amungst a crowd of multi nationals. If when Joe turned serious and lost his weight he just so hyperthetically did actual perform at a world class level for a team struggling both on and off the pitch would it be recognised to be so...i doubt it, but that don't mean it ain't so cause i've watched all the keepers your mentioning and Corrigan in that last quarter of his carreer (it seems there is a big truth in bigger people maturing slower) was the match of 'em. Remember the Dutch smashing the Zoffs and Meyers of this world in '74...i doubt very much Corrigan would have been beat from 40 yards in his primetime...his waist went slim, he was big lad and he could get his hand into the inside angle....your oppo Shilton could never do that. Thanks for the chat.

shilton isn't my oppo, i said jennings was the best british keeper. take ur blue eyed specs off and read again where i said he was. The last world class keeper we had was trautmann.

would have been peter schmeichel if we'd got him when he was in his prime and not past his best.

"For me, pat jennings and shilton were the best british keepers at the time.
i assumed being world class means you would get into a world XI at the time, for me, corrigan wouldn't have"

My apologies, when i read 'for me' i kinda presume you favour them, my mistake.

Only world class players at City for me are Given, Kompany, Tevez and Yaya Toure if he signs. AJ, de Jong, Boateng and Ireland all have the potencial to be aswell though

nope, if you'd read my 3rd reply to you, rather than being selective, you would have seen the line with this comment below.

i'll paste it here, so you can easily find which quote it was.

Yeah well i chose to ignore that one cause i did kinda mention right at the very start (i cant be arsed highlighting it) that corrigan was world class for a 4 yr period towards the end of his career right around the time he lost his weight and broke the shilton/clemence bio right to international (world) caps. This was a period in time he was actually better than Jennings, Jennings i agree had been more than a gud 'un but his period was earlier, post '76-ish he was unashamedly off his best and busying himself with collecting testomonials. Read what i actually wrote before you start giving folk instructions to what to do with thier glasses...is my tip for the day.

Rooney is VERY overrated.
99% of his goals are tap ins and he only really performs when his team are playing well - He showed this in England vs USA.

Tevez can change games, the way he runs at people and doesn't give up is unbelievable (unlike Rooney - if things aren't going his way he gives up and has a strop). Tevez can hit a goal or two from out side the box and around the edge of the area (as he proved last season). Rooney has scored 91 goals for Utd in the 189 games he has played for Utd (0.48 goals per game). Tevez has only been at City for one season and has had to have time to gel etc and scored 23 goals in 35 games (0.66 goals per game).

For these reasons i would pick Tevez over Rooney in my World XI team...

Extremely biased view there. Tevez is not in the top 5 strikers in the world, and Rooney works just as hard and has the propensity to change games just as much as tevez does.

What was tevez's goal ratio at united? Only fair comparison..

Tevez wasn't given a fair chance at Utd though so it would be biased and unfair to judge him on that.

Just ignore his 1st season then..
