Who is the Best All-Around Player England Has Ever Produced?

Carlton Pogba was French……

Bobby Charlton. If he hadn’t been taken off Vs Germany 1970, then England would have won World Cup.

I'm too young to have seen Moore or Bell.

In my lifetime I'd certainly have Shearer up there. Fast, two footed, clinical, aggressive and scored free kicks for fun. Great in the air too. If he was around now he'd be the only one able to come close to Haaland.

Gazza was also another who had the lot and he could've been one of the best in the world.

I don't like to say it but Scholes was very good. If we're talking just about England games, Beckham usually delivered.

I think Foden has the potential to be the best though!
ALL ROUND? So we’re looking at midfielder who has everything…..

We've had some incredible players but the FA have been unable to hire a manager capable of tactically producing a team that could win things. The team with Terry, Ferdinand, Lampard, Scholes, Gerrard, Owen, Rooney should have won something.

It's a good question. For me it has to be someone who has produced it for England. Bell therefore misses out despite being one of the greats. Charlton, Moore, Gascoigne, Ashley Cole, Rooney are probably our best ever. Right now we have a very good team but Southgate needs to be able to also let the flair shine through. We've got issues in certain positions, but if he can mould the team ethic with an ability to let the likes of Foden, Grealish and Bellingham thrive then we'll win something in the next 4-6 years.

We all know that he's unlikely to deliver though.

Ashley Cole was a high class defender, probably the best full back we've produced. And Rooney in 2004 despite being a granny shagging rag bastard was absolutely phenomenal. Probably the best an Englishman has ever played in a tournament. Without his injury we win the Euro's in my opinion. He was absolutely destroying the opposition. Better than Gazza in 96.

I think Lampard, overall, was more effective, and thus better.

But I think—when it comes to comprehensive skills and natural ability allowing them to be the most adaptable player England has produced—Stones has the potential to stand alone when all is said and done.

He has played CB, RB, DM, CM, AM, RW (sometimes at various times in a single match), all to a high level.

I genuinely think he could do a job as a target man in a pinch.

He is a prototypal Pep player, if one exists.
As much as I am in awe of Stones, I do think there's a difference between occupying a position in the pitch for a few minutes and "playing" there

John has done nothing of note wide on the right to back up the statement that he has "played RW to a high level," for example. He's moved into space, received the ball, and looked after it well. He has not driven past the fullback and put a cross on to Haaland's forehead from the byline, or cut inside and curled a shot into the far post. Which is what I would expect from someone playing right-wing to a high level

If he actually played attacking midfield for us, and we depended on him to create chances, I think we'd be pretty disappointed

Yaya Touré is someone who genuinely could (and did) play central defence and attacking midfield. I don't think Stones is quite that, as magnificent as he is
