I'm amazed at the lack of votes for VDS, he was fucking boss at Ajax, boss at Juve, boss at Fulham and boss at the rags when he was 40. In general he was fucking boss.
I didn't know you were Liverpudlian lad?

It's all that istreee lad! we've a scouser at work and he uses that word at least 6 times a day it's got to the point where we call him "Barry boss" or "the boss" behind his back.

Wasn't there a testimonial in the early 80s for Ken Barnes(?) at Maine Road versus Stoke, and at half-time there was a 6-a-side match where the great Bert kept goal?

In the second half, Bert played in City's goal, with the proviso "don't expect miracles from a 51 year old"!

Joe Corrigan sat behind the goal in awe. At the other end, was Gordon Banks!

3 great goalkeepers in my opinion.

VDS in Italy was not so great, at all.
Juventus sold him as soon as possible.

I'd go with Buffon, because he was great since the first day in Serie A... and close to him i'd put Smicheal, Zoff, Kahn,Yashin and Peruzzi.

Best iv'e seen is Schmeichel and Buffon.

However for me the best performances from a goalkeeper I have seen was Friedel in his prime. What an outstanding keeper, will be a sad day when he hangs up his boots for the last time.

In my lifetime schmeichel was an impenetrable force, just a solid brick wall. Can't comment on anyone before 1995.
That comment could have been said by 95% of Rags!

I can't decide between Kevin Stuhr-Ellegaard and Perry Suckling

In all seriousness, my first thoughts were Pat Jennings

I haven't really got a clue. Never really watched old matches to focus on the keepers so can only talk about the best in my time. For me the best keeper I have seen at their peaks was Buffon followed by Cech. However, VDS played at a high level for such a long time. Cech's head injury brought his level down a couple of notches. I have not always watched Juventus, through out the 00's, but since he had the best peak and has longevity I would give it to him.

Buffon's still fucking class!

Cech is better than VDS ever was. He should be on the list.

Khan for me anyway, guy was a fucking beast. Notable mention for Chilavert, loved that guy when I was a kid.

I agree, but don't think he is at his peak, but probably still the number one keeper in the world for me.

From what I've seen, Jennings, my old man says Yashin and my grandad say's we're both unfortunate enough not to see Trautmann.

Going from Keepers within my generation, it would be................

Buffon
Schemichel
Cech
VDS

Another class keeper that hasn't been mentioned is Seamen.

He was well passed his best with us, and people struggle to look past his stupid pony tail, but for a decade he was up there with the very best, in my opinion.
