I don't think it will be first game but I think the poor bloke will hit some kind of injury/fatigue problem if we pin it all on him again. Its just sods law. Like last season relying on one out and out left back, we were fortunate delph stepped up but we would be mad to assume that a player will always be able to seamlessly transition into a new role like he did. Especially given the pivot role is significantly more complex and demanding in our system.

I'm with you mate...if we really believed Delph, Zinchenko were the answer, we wouldnt have spent the last 6months trying to fill need from outside the club. It might have been for different reasons but not so long ago, we waited a couple of seasons to long before finding cover/replacements at the fullback position and left ourselves with 4 aging fullbacks that had lost a step, with little depth behind and that had a big impact on Pep's first season. I dont want us to make the same mistake with Fern and the DM position....Love Fern but the lad is going to need help over a long season! we so close to being serious contenders for the CL...I believe filling this need would have taken us over the top....

It will imo and it’s extremely short sighted to be honest. Lessons not learned again about strengthening when you are ahead!

It surely can only be short sighted if we failed to even attempt to purchase. Not getting the players we wanted imo is not shortsighted

Would you suggest we bought someone the club didn't rate for the sake of it - gen question.

Not many candidates for the role in question and the ones who may have fit the bill we didn't get. Of course the club will say we are fine if there is no one out there to better what we have, unless you have a name or two

Obviously not mate but there are players available but we don’t seem to want to pay the prices for them? That’s all well and good in theory but we only needed two players this summer and have only actually invested in the one area we weren’t desperate to add to?
