Who now then?...

Good to hear. There is no point wasting money on somebody who doesn't fit what we are actually looking for. Bide our time and get the right player in the replace Fern long term

Quite right. Perhaps our thinking now is Jorginho or nobody. Am I alone in suspecting that, despite player sales (completed and likely) from the club, we’re operating to a strict budget in this transfer market in the knowledge that next summer we’ll have the funds for a mega-signing who completely fits the bill (whoever that may be)? I don’t claim to know about these things but won’t improved contracts for our stars, with the club yet to tie Sterling and Jesus down, also play a part in our budget planning?

I wouldn’t be surprised if we go quiet for 2 weeks and then find out some “crack” is available and go out for them. Dm wise: why go in for someone not knowing what we’ll get I say it’s best to wait out see who suddenly decides to leave their clubs and if no good options wait until January. We have the best squad in the league and fernandhino isn’t dead everyone needs to stop flapping Sanchez and Alves didn’t sign but we ended up scoring most goals and our defense wasn’t awful was it?

Anyone else think Stones could be transformed to a DM, and we buy Maguire? Stones is brilliant on the ball, good passer, he`s intelligent, has decent pace and is a great tackler. His only shortcoming IMO, is his marking and concentration at times, and I don`t think that would be exposed to an equal extent, as if he was playing CB
Like you, given time, I think stones is more than capable of adapting to the DM role. Like you, I would also, given the chance, snap up McGuire in a heartbeat. (As I suggested we should’ve done before he left Hull for Leicester, rather than still p*ssing about pursuing Van Djke when it became clear he didn’t want to join us).

Snag being, of course, that he’s now had a very decent World Cup since then, and, as a result, it would now cost us, in my opinion, a hell of a lot more money than we were offering Napoli for Jorginho, to persuade Leicester to sell.

I don’t think there’s a need to panic. I’m sure the likes of Kompany or Laporte could fill in if the need arose.

I am not convinced Maguire would be a good fit at City. He didn't look that comfortable when pressed and he lacks pace. Neither England or Leicester play a line as high as City and I could see him being exposed in our system

To the itk's - what position does Adrien Rabiot play at PSG ?

I know he was with us once, but reportedly returned to france due to being homesick .

Just seen in Jorginho thread that he is apparently interesting Barca .

Although Bayern are very unlikely to sell (at least at a reasonable price), I would like Vidal. Not the youngest but plenty of CL experience and is a tough fucker.
