Who should be the next leader of the Tory party?

Think you've labeled rascal wrong there

No that's the point. All of them have views that don't tie in neatly with the rest because they are real people not cartoon characters.

Rascal is anti-war, pro CND and a communist therefore he "hates Britain" and needs to go to a "Prevent" re-education camp.

And for the country? Rather fear for the damage that a Truss premiership could cause between September 2022 and January 2025.
I used to think that way but the Tories have been so bad for this country since 2010 that the two year disaster of a Truss premiership would probably be worth it for the country in the long run if it meant them losing power

I can understand that line of thought. I can also see why Labour would not be adverse to a degree of economic destruction if it meant destroying forever the Conservatives’ motto of ‘protector of the economy’.

Still hope that the next government is a coalition and that it legislates electoral reform, but the next two years are going to be so painful for everyone, irrespective of the candidate, that it is becoming easier to countenance a massive Conservative defeat. Fifteen years of political hardship could be met with a punitive vote at the polls.

Truss is clearly an absolute loon with daddy issues.
A vacillating hymn sheet swapper, and a conceited narcissist to boot.
I would wager she wouldn't be in charge at the next election..... if she wins this race, which logically she has to.

I mean, how can you vote for and trust Sunak? He's been in charge of the economy for the last eighteen months / two years... and look at the state of it.

Now the much lauded ‘tax cuts’ are not to be interpreted as ‘tax cuts’ per se but instead ‘not raising taxes’ any further.

Government now attacking the Bank of England now for not raising interest rates sooner. It can get in line with the BBC, C4 and all the other subversive bodies that have prevented the Government from doing it’s job…

She might well go for a GE this year. The Tories are very, very good at making a ‘new’ leader look like a fresh start and the optics are only going to get much worse over the next 2 and a bit years.
Mate despite that innate skill the tories have for polishing a turd, even this one is beyond them. Economically the country is fucked with 13% inflation, rising interest rates and a recession lasting over a year to look forward to there really is a hope in hell of a GE anytime soon.

If we know anything about the tories then they love power at any cost and fizz with Liz will be milked for all its worth. She will try and ride out the recession and then pretend that only she has the answers to fix her own party's mess again.

As a non tory what i find almost funny is the idea that Sunak was the cause of our current woes. Boris hand picked a cabinet based almost entirely on loyalty and ran a system of central control. Everything that was done was based on the thinking of the BJ policy team. If Sunak didn't want to do something they would have forced him out. We know this as that is why he got the job when Javid resigned/forced out.

No way.
Despite the fact she's not up to the job of PM in almost every respect she's still going to win the Tory members vote.
I suspect a Truss Presidency will be hilarious. And, as we’re going to have very little else to laugh at over the next couple of years, I’m looking forward to it, in a perverse sort of a way!

Absolutely right. The years of Sunak as chancellor have not been a demonstration of his incompetence in the job. They have been a demonstration of the fact that he had no backbone and would not stand up to the demands of the No. 10 policy unit which means he is still a terrible choice as PM because he has no integrity. The only thing in his favour as a choice is the fact that Truss is even worse.
