Who should be the next leader of the Tory party?

In times like these with what's happening in Ukraine I think there is a tendency to move towards military circles so my money is on Ben Wallace.

The dark horse is Penny Mordaunt. I don't know if she's well connected enough to gather support but she comes across quite well and she's not of the Etonian ilk that has plagued the last decade.
The problem the Tories have in finding a leader is that Brexit contaminates the debate. Only a Brexiteer would be acceptable to the membership, and anyone who is still a Brexiteer is either not very bright or is in it for their own personal gain. Assuming it's got to be a Brexiteer Mordaunt would be my preferred choice - mainly because I don't remember seeing her speak so she hasn't had the opportunity to leave a bad impression. Probably not the best justification for making that sort of choice but there's little else to go on.

Mordaunt also has a military background, as does Tugendhat.

A successful Conservative leader generally needs to have been working the backbenches and bars for a while and to have built a network of supporters. That was one of the things that did for May who was considered cold and aloof by some.

They’ll pick someone that appeals to them, not necessarily the electorate, so I don’t expect a wildcard. It will either be someone who has been in Cabinet who has connections or someone from the benches who has built support. Might start with a Grand National field with many coming a cropper at Becher’s Brook.

It doesn't matter who comes in as leader, all the dirt digging will start over again. The only way to not get a Tory PM is to vote the Tories out.

And for that to happen you need a capable opposition that Labour keep fucking up time and time again.

I am afraid the formula works for most.
For those who want to just sit around and wait for the world to change to how they think it should work, have not had any luck to date and that lucks not going to change who ever is in power.
Why plant new trees when you can climb existing ones?
