Who should the captain be ?

Pep left it to the players to decide and they’ve got who they voted for. I think it’s an incredibly important decision and was surprised Pep let them choose. Walker has been fantastic for us but I’ve never looked at him and thought he was a leader. I’m obviously not in the changing room though.

Watching the game back today it looked like Ruben gave him a right bollocking after their first goal.

I think Ruben is nailed on to have it next.

I’m sure at some point we’ve all worked somewhere where there’s a middle management type with zero leadership skills and nobody really pays much attention to. They might be good at doing a technical part of their job but they totally lack management and leadership.

That’s Walker. Is (was) a gifted footballer but zero leadership qualities.

Dias is our de facto captain anyway, they might as well just give him the armband officially.

If actually put him above Rodri tbh. Rodri is an incredible footballer but Dias just has that - dare I say it “Kompanyesque” vibe to him.

That's been the way we've done it for a while and it's worked.

I think Kyle's speech before the CL final, when he was benched, really made a statement to the squad and he's been selected as a result.

It's harsh to suggest he isn't captain material simply because he's now lost his pace and form, but I think the majority of us would pick Dias or Rodri. I'd personally give it to Dias because I think he's a much more level headed character than Rodri, based on the documentary footage of them, and I wouldn't want Rodri to change his approach.

If you found out your boss had about 8 kids to several women and was caught waving his cock about in some pub pissed up, would you have respect for him? Would you fuck.

Captaincy is about leading by example.

Kompany and Dias - spend their spare time doing masters degrees and quietly being with their families.

Walker - spends his spare time acting like a pissed horny student in freshers week.

Tells you everything you need to know about the character of the men.

First off..
How good has Kyle been for us. A massive part of our recent success. Fast, strong, consistent for so many years. Crossing was suspect but least he was someone we could rely on defensively. Possibly the best ever full back we’ve had?

However..
His time with us is now coming to its end. We will have to move on from him unfortunately this Summer. Sad but true. Think nearly everyone would agree on that.

Being Captain..
It’s not his fault he is popular in the dressing room. The players decide who leads them. Twice they voted for him. As fans though we have been used to Kompany, Fernandinho and Gundogan. Intelligent, phenomenal leaders not just in the dressing room but for the fans as well.
Kyle, as nice a lad he might be in the changing room, is not anywhere near the calibre of his 3 predecessors when it comes to representing the club.
I know I’m disliking him more and more with every cliche interview and statement he puts out there.

Moving forward..
It’s got to be Dias or Rodri. Rodri is the better player but Dias is the better communicator. Both fine leaders. Either will be a huge improvement but I will admit I can’t wait for Walker to hand the arm band in.

Shouldn’t be up to the players though should it.

It’s like asking a load of kids to choose their teacher. They’d all pick the “cool” hungover supply teacher who lets them just watch telly and arse around all lesson.

It might be the leader they want, but it’s not the leader they need.

Guardiola needs to put a stop to this stupid idea right now, and as I said on another thread, fuck Kyle Walker’s ego.

I agree with all of this.

I don’t dislike Walker at all and I’m grateful for all he’s done so far in his time here but the immaturity and stupidity of his off field behaviour doesn’t spell ‘shining example’ to me.
