Who was at Liverpool league Cup Semi Final 1981

Remember the police escort we got to Lime St, loads of Dippers waiting to ambush City fans. Scary night nothing has changed much at Anfield, hell hole of a ground.

I went to the game with a scouse housemate from uni. Went in the Kop with his mates, right behind the goal. Kevin Reeves scored right in front us and, without thinking, I jumped in the air and let out a loud cheer. I cut the cheer short on realising that everyone else in the Kop was silent. My new friends came to my rescue, probably said I'd just been released from a mental hospital. Really close call

I was in the main stand that night. Back row.
As I recall, McDonald, Gow & Hutchinson were all cup-tied. Under the circumstances remarkable performances by City over both legs. Should have won both games.
Good point about the tricky trio Bond had signed to change the dynamics of our team ...All 3 players settled immediately and became very popular.Gow was my favourite, looked like he,d escaped from a touring 70s heavy -rock band to sign for us..bobby mac always seemed to pop up with important goals, as he showed in the later F A Cup quarter final replay at Maine rd..Tommy hutch..was he 43 y.o when he signed for us? Incredible.
It was indeed a remarkable performance by us over two legs with these very important, and in form players missing.

Funnily enough, the next time City were to reach the quarter finals, at least,of BOTH major domestic cup competitions, we met both liverpool and everton again ,under Mel Machin, losing heavily at Goodison and at home to Liverpool.1987/88 season.

Yes those 3 massively helped turn our season around. I think we were bottom when John Bond signed them. Tommy Hutchinson was in fact 33 when he signed for us but he played like he was 10 yrs younger.

Some mates were on the earlier service train that chased the scousers up the hill turning right outside Lime Street before being coralled by the police on the steps of St. George's Hall. When our train got in an hour later they were ready for us. Remember trying to get out the side entrance near the Crown and hundreds appearing from the Las Vegas amusement arcade. I swear many came out of the sewers. Then walked down Scotland Road and all sorts being chucked off the balcony's from the flats as we passed.
Then did it all again for the Everton semi - at least the result was better then - God bless Paul Power!!

I remember it well as if it was yesterday, not the football I add but the very cold journey home
by coach as at least 3 of the windows had been smashed by brinks. I was only 16 at the time
and I have and will never go back there. And here we are all these years later and nothing has changed !!
They are the scum of the earth I fucking hate them and would rather united win the league than them any day,

The Everton quarter final was my first away game and as a callow 15 year old was informed by the older lags to stick close when leaving the ground and dont be chanting just keep it shut and get to the mini bus, it was fucking bedlam outside, saying that I recall the replay at ours wasn't much better it was kicking off all over the ground.

That was one hell of a long walk to the ground from the train station! It was always a challenge going to Liverpool or Everton many a skirmish in and around Stanley Park and windows always smashed when travelling by coach.

Mind you travelling to many of the grounds had the same end result. Coming all the way back from Newcastle in Jan after a cup match with smashed windows was not something to be enjoyed either.
