Why are you a City fan?

My old man was a big blue, i got no choice in the matter. In any case, where i grew up in the 70's /80's (Stockport) most lads were City fans

I'm a plastic rag never been to a game in my life, only come on here to piss the mod's off:-) in all seriousness went to my first game in 74 for a friends birthday and I've been in a perpetual state of doom ever since :-)

Collyhurst born,Moston bred me dad and his brothers as blue as they come,i was always gonna be a blue me old fella would have disowned me if i had even contemplated following the fuckin vermin.

Uncle took me my first match in 70/71 season aged 8, so no choice in the matter. Happy he did. Used to go regular but now just an armchair glory hunter who goes very occaisionally, about twice a season, find the cost prohibitive and obtaining tickets a pain. Oh for the days when you could rack up and pay a few quid on the gate.

Growing up in the Greater Manchester area I went to watch quite a number of teams such as City/Bury/Bolton/Oldham, anywhere I could get to on public transport as a kid I'd go just to watch a match.

My first proper team, as in one I was often taken to was Bolton Wanderers @ Burnden Park by my Father and enjoyed it, but when I stopped seeing him I looked at other clubs in the mid 1990's.
Many Family members supported City or United and I'd always had it instilled in me to hate United so I started going down on the Bus/Tram to Maine Road in the mid-1990's.

My Aunt had been a Bury Fan but started supporting City when Colin Bell moved from Bury to City (lol)
My Grandfathers first match at Maine Road was in 1947, first thing he did after Royal Navy service was go to a match.

Reasons sound childish but yea I preferred the colour Blue, pocket money wasn't much so it was cheaper to get in at Maine Road.

Didn't go often as much for a few years when City moved to the City of Manchester Stadium, maybe the odd game, but enjoyed it under Sven which got me hooked again (2007), and became a season ticket holder.

I consider myself a die hard supporter but if say City were to relocate or I moved to a place far away from Manchester - I'd choose another local club to me.

Just think, if my Dad had shown interest in me as a child I'd be watching shit right now @ the Reebok Stadium hahahaha.... thanks Dad ;)

Two reasons: first game I saw was vs west brom in charity shield match (1968 I think) when we wacked them and something clicked with me about the way we played football that day. Second reason, I was in primary school in uppermill, and all my class were reds, Georgie best this and Bobby charlton that. The rich kids had gb boots, the ones that laced up the sides. Having been a contrary bstd since birth, I thought I would support the blues. My dad took me to main road a couple of times but he wasn't a city fan. Has been a passion since.
