Why are you a City fan?

Grandad grew up on Mill Lane, which was very close to where the Etihad now is, he used to watch City at Hyde Rd, the City-supporting baton was passed to my mum and then to me. It never really occurred to me to follow any other team, it just seemed the natural thing to do even though City were in the 2nd tier at the time (mid 60s).

As none of the family were football supporters, it was peer pressure that got me started*. Went to my first match in 1959 at the tender age of 9 with my best mate Malcolm Wild on Dickie Woods coaches from Ashton. Graduated to Maynes coaches in the mid 60s with other mates, and followed them ever since.
(*When I say peer pressure, only 2 or 3 of us were Blues in my class - this was just after that plane crash when the sympathy vote went in (and never came out). The bandwagon started then, I suppose.)

Proposed to my (late) wife in the Social Club at a Supporters Club do in 1974, down on one knee, etc, and converted her from the dark side, as all her family are rags.

My 2 girls don't watch football, but my eldest daughter runs a business that has links with both the club and players, so I am sworn to secrecy and would have to kill you if I revealed anything. Treason is non - negotiable. Don't PM for details.

All family BLUES back to the days of my late Grandad {70s) Born in Higher Openshawe. Jeepers started going when I was 9 with my Dad & Uncle. I am now 51. Once a Blue always a Blue. Both sons brought up the Blue way from the 80s! lol. CTID

Moved to Manchester from Scotland when I was 7 in 1970. My dad had no interest in football and my older brother took a liking for the Rags. So I chose to support City. Subconsciously I might have been aware of our success at the time so I'm probably one of the original glory hunters. Suffered for it plenty since though.

My brother incidentally changed his allegiance but does work at the swamp and I think he's a closet rag.

Dad took me from the age of 7 and that was that as it was for my son too.

Had I not had any influence, I would have almost certainly have been a Liverpool fan as a lot of my mates were.

Because I was born in Surrey and my dad is an Arsenal fan.

and we moved up north when I was a little kid and my dad and I started to go to City with our die hard City season ticket holding next door neighbour.

All my Dads side of the family from Handforth support City (3 brothers) and my mums 2 brothers who are from Cavendish Road in West Didsbury are City fans aswell, their Dad was a Welsh rag mind, the only blood related red in the family now is my nephew. Sickening.

I wish I could say something romantic about falling in love with the colour blue or being mesmerised when watching the boys in blue with my dad from the Kippax. My dad wanted me to support United like him. He would take me to games at Old Trafford but being a cheeky bastard and contrary, I chose to support City. He would offer to double my 'spends' if I supported them but being the stubborn sod I have always been, I refused. I then started going to games at Maine Road with a friend and their uncle from around the age of 10.
