Why are you a City fan?

Born in the mid 60's. Dad was a Bury fan and took me there but I never got the buzz. Then my older sister went out with a blue and he took me to Maine Rd in 76. Bang hooked.

I used to watch my local team play and remember seeing how many fans city brought in lower leagues , and when I could afford to I started seeing city

My sister took me to the swamp in 1970 when I was 5!! Absolutely hated it full of cockney reds in butcher coats pissing and throwing matches at other fans. I persuaded my Dad to take me to Maine Road, he and all his family were rags, but bless him he took me and I've been blue and proud since. Living in Alty was hard as a blue but it made me! Now in Bury.

Born in 1961 at Withington Hospital, and raised in Wythenshawe. We had no TV in the sixties, and my parents weren't that fussed about footy. My brother was a year older and he plumped for United. After initially being undecided, wavering towards United, I decided to support City, to oppose my brother.

My sister and other brother followed me and City, and my older brother and his family are the only reds.

I later found out my mum's family were blues also.

My first real memory of City was an article in a national newspaper I read when at my uncle's house in Peterborough. The headline was 'A tale of two Cities', following our FA Cup win in 1968. Our neighbour took me to my first game in the late sixties / early seventies against West Ham. Clive Best played for them. We won 3-1 I think.

Firstly from the age of 6 my favourite colour was blue, that loosely steered me to city when asked in the play ground. Then as a result of that my mum pecked my dads head to take me to a game, which he wasn't keen on being a rag. So he took me and my brother to a night game, he parked up outside Maine road and asked us to wait in the car whilst he checked at the turns styles for a price. 5 minutes later he returned... I remember I was buzzing in excitement. My dad sat in his seat and started the car. Bemused I asked what was happening. His reply was "you can feck of if you think I'm paying that much!!"... (This being in the 70's, so can't of been that much). From that day on I swore never to be a red like the rest of my family and swore allegence to my beloved city. I know for a fact my dad was gutted, and has been since for me being a blue.... Even better with the position we are in now lol. I've since tried talking to him about it.... Oddly he doesn't remember that night... He should of, my mum gave him a thick ear haha. Thankfully both my boys are blues and my eldest is a season ticket holder like me. The rule in our house if my boys get bought anything of rag inclination from any of the family rags, then it will get set on fire in the garden end of...

Dad went city one week. Utd the next.as my gran lived on platt lane we used to visit her and then go to match in early / mid 70s .went in kip pax but all seems a blur.loved the alleyways, cobbles and horse shit especially the floodlights.on night matches and the toffee shop en route. Got serious with season ticket in family stand during Barnes/ tue art era.watching Barnes beat players two or three times was ace.hated liverpool games as they always hammered us and hated their fans celebrating in family stand and everyone getting tetchy.dont think anything will surpass being with my two sons on aguero day.thankfully my dad lost any feeling for the rags following munich.he still can't abide the scousers though.dont think he ever recovered from Newton- le- willows ending up in merseyside.
