Why Don't Asians Support City?

city's asian following is currently small but expect that to grow as we start being successful. apart from the much photographed 3 sikhs who sit behind bacon face i doubt many of the red shirt wearers have ever been to the swamp.

im Asian Aswell From Singapore :)

i used to only have one friend who i know that supported City.. but thanks to the Bepartofit thingy i now know more blues living in Singapore :)

cause we're planning to meet up and watch the match together :)

I have not read the whole threat but i must say, i am a proud city supporter from thailand for more than four years now and so has my father for the whole of his life. The problem in asia is that, sorry fellow asians, but most of us are glory hunters, i have the benefit of studying in the uk and so i see more than just rags and chelski but most people in thailand wouldnt even know who city is until a few yrs ago during the takeover. I would like to add that eventhough i havenot been to a game yet i am hoping i will go to manchester this coming halfterm to watch a match nd will see u all there.ctid

I work in Whitchaple in London, which is the Asian area of London, my bosses are also Asian and ive asked this question to them before. They tell me that United are the only team anyone knows in India and that most people think Britain is in Manchester! Also Asian families are always led by the father and its un heard of for any sons to go against what his dad says, so if your told to support United, you do so.

I live in London and all I see is Asian lads in Rag shirts, usually fake ones, dont see many London team shirts on them, Im sure this will change with success.

Go around the City and you will see Asians(Pakistanis, Indians, Sikhs, etc) wearing United tops. Especially the kids.

TBH, I can't remember the last time I saw an Asian wearing a City shirt around the city or seeing an Asian at a City match.

Honestly.. how many of them go to the Swamp? If the answer to that is not many, then the ones wearing tops are are glory hunters and they aren't going to be following City are they?

I know what you mean though, you would think that we would have had a higher Asian following considering our roots and the proximity to Rusholme/ Longsight etc, but then again as a general rule football grounds in the 1970's and 80's were hardly the most PC environment and attendances were dropping until the explosion of the Premier League. By then of course United were in their pomp and we were heading in the opposite direction. That's my take on it, although I do see more Asian faces at City these days.

I'd say you're bang on the money there regarding the eighties generation.

I'd see the rags have got more following from the Irish communities, too. It just sort of happens.

Tottenham have got traditions within Jewish Families, Arsenal has alot of support from Black people. It's just the way it is.

Another reason for more foriegners supporting United would be that United sold themselves abroad a lot better than City ever did. The exposure they get from SKY means that they are on the tv a hell of a lot more than City have been.

I lived down in London when we went down to the 3rd tier and trying to get to see City on the box was a bloody nightmare. Pubs will put on United because they bring in the punters. If United are on in my local the boozers are full even when United are playing at home (I only live 30mins drive from the swamp).

It's been easy to support United over the last 20 years or so but City have had false dawns and dashed dreams for more years than I care to remember. It can be bloody hard work at times (Hopefully that will change with a bit of silverware).

Not many Asians I see in England support 'smaller' clubs. Many Asians won't have the same geographical bonds as many people who have had generations living in the same town be that Bury, Burnley, Barnsley, Blackburn or any other town starting with a 'B'

At the Sunderland away game last season. There was a Sikh man with his two young daughters about 3 rows below me. I was quite surprised to say the least as I didn't think we really had an Asian following

This guy and his daughters were sat behind me at the Hull game away last season.
Its stuck in my head so it kinda proves that point of the OP that not many asians support City.

I have seen plenty of asian fans at citys games. Perhaps asian blues are more prudent than the shirt carriers who never go to a game.

I am the only City Fan out of extended family of around 100 uncles / aunties / cousins etc - 95% support Man U / 4% support the Dippers, leaving me as the 1%.

Being 35 years old, I have had to endure years of misery from the rest of the family, but the future is blue, the only shame is that I am now based in Dubai.

Reason why I am the only blue relates to mainly due to Munich and the sympathy this generated for Man U.
Most first generation Pak / Indian's immigrants arrived in late 60's / early seventies and whilst City was a force, they never had the sympathy vote.

From the 80's onward, it all be about following success and tyring to be part of a winning team / group and not standing out a loner - thus the Man U / and Dipper vote.
