C-M...i am interested in why so few decendents of the sub continent go to games.
Does it go back to the 70s/80s and the hooliganism and racism that were prevalent on the terraces back then?
Is football still viewed has being the same now by the Indian/Bangladeshi/Pakistan communities

ps..have you ever felt intimidated at a football match because of your colour?

It was always a perception from our parents that football fans are racist hooligans. In the 70's and 80's you only ever heard about the hooligans and they suffered a fair bit of verbal abuse back then.

I have never felt majorly intimidated. Most of my mates I used to go with are English lads. I think it gets abit rowdy when we are playing shit and things are not going well. You always get some dickheads who want to have it out with our own fans

I don't know much about the Pakistani or Bangladeshi communities, but I know loads of Indians who go to football be it City, Rags, Dippers etc.

On a personal note, you don't need to be at a football match to feel intimidated in some parts of the country. Racism is starting to bubble again probably down to what has been happpening across the world.

I will be taking my kids to games as soon as I think they are old enough

Thanks blue...and what a great time for the kids to start going to watch City

Pleasantly surprised with this thread so far, with a couple of exceptions.

To be absolutely fair to those three guys, they are at every single United game home and away, front and centre. Not exactly your gloryhunting types, fair play to them.
Do you reckon they were going before 1993 and do you reckon they got them seats next to the dug out after being on a waiting list for years?

I think what might turn things around regarding Asians is if we, as a club, start getting abuse from morons for being owned and run by Muslims. Also, nearly all of these plastic rags who pull on the £5 moody utd top will just say they're not into footy, should the scums success disappear.

there's an Indian fella who sits next but 1 seat up from me in s-stand level 2,top bloke and knowledgeable.

my little lads half asian too,and city through and through

I'm a British Asian with Pakistani parents. I've supported City for most of my life, mostly because my best childhood friend was (and still is) a blue. I think the reason City do not have a large Asian following is because as second generation a lot of us didn't have role models that support City (or football for that matter), and therefore do not have the deep seated affiliation with the club. With United being more successful, it's human nature to want to jump on the bandwagon and support the more successful team, when you have no other reason to lean one way or the other. I love being a City fan (it's never boring!), and try to get to home matches at least half a dozen times a year (work & finances allowing, as I now live in London).

got to say i dont know any asian man city fans or have ever sat next to one i think its cos city are a mainly white working class club- thats the truth

Yes they have been going since before 93. They've lived round the Stretford area for years, one of them works for direct works at Trafford council. They are anything but 'gloryhunters' i can assure you.
