Why we're better than Spurs...

We have much better individual players but Spurs are miles ahead of us as a team. They have just beaten Milan at San Siro! And we can't even beat a fucking greek wanker team Aris with our best eleven!

I hope Mancini does something...cuz i want us to improve.

Yeah, as the BBC says, 'swashbuckling' Spuds play has made them one of the entertainers of the season, especially compared to 'boring boring' City.

If you want proof, just look at all the goals they've scored in the PL - a massive 37. If they win their game in hand over us 7-0, they'll have scored one more than us, which will prove what I'm saying.

Well the BBC article was actually talking about the UEFA Champions League, not the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur scored a tournament record-breaking 18 goals in their six Group Stage matches and a total of 24 goals, including the two qualification games against those nice Young Boys from Berne.

By contrast AC Milan only managed a meager 7 goals in their 6 Group Stage matches.

Really? i'd swap their midfield for ours without hesitation.

Bale better than AJ
VDV better than Yaya
Pienaar better than Barry
Lennon better than SWP/Weiss
Palacios equal to DJ
Huddlestone equal to Milner
Kranjcar
Jenas
O'Hara
Sandro

Their defence is probably on a par,Dawson and Assou-EKotto being an improvement on their respectives.
Our forward line is considerably better.

Kompany de jong hart given Tevez ballotelli and aj. Would get in spurs team the rest of our team I doubt it. I'd rather have modric or vdv than silva. Both hurt teams which I don't think silva does.

Bale better than AJ - What? Because of one or two good games?!?
VDV better than Yaya - Different players entirely
Pienaar better than Barry - Possibly
Lennon better than SWP/Weiss - Certainly faster
Palacios equal to DJ - NOT IN A MILLION YEARS YOU COMPLETE TOOL
Huddlestone equal to Milner - Maybe

a couple of good results and suddenly they are up there with barca.

football fans have the attention span of a goldfish.

it's swings and roundabouts. our technical tactical style wins a few, then they win a few by running really fast. even before our best run this season their boards were convinced that our ability to keep a clean sheet and control games put us miles ahead of them this season. now some of us crave their ability to relentlessky attack at pace. the reality is that we are chalk and cheese. you can only pursue one philosophy at a time. we need to improve or execution rather than give in to self-doubt.

not that the OP made much sense to me but there aren't words to describe how much I hate seeing City fans fawn over the enemy.

i hate spurs but i'm grateful in a way. they've created a genuine tension. can they pick up more wins, even beat Arsenal? how will we respond? it's a genuine challenge, and we will learn more about our team and manager, than if we'd been allowed to sleepwalk into third position. i can't wait for the next couple of months, can't wait to play them.

With respect, part of the grand delusion on Bluemoon is that Spurs are a team who simply "run really fast". But we can put that aside for a minute because as you rightly point out they are our rivals so it stands to reason we'll belittle them.

What should be of great concern is that, just like last season, us Blues were comparing run ins and saying "well, look at the teams Spurs have to play - and they have to come to us" as if it was going to be a walk in the park finishing 4th. Spurs continue to show that they can go to tough tough grounds and WIN when it's needed. Hands up how many were on here recently saying Spurs would drop points at Sunderland and get beat my Milan....

Right, i'm probably going to take a fair bit of stick for this thread but try and bear with me as I attempt to get my thoughts down in as concise a way as I can.

After watching us fail to break down another side and geting an away 0-0 in the Europa lge against Aris, I switched over to watch Spurs. Like 99% of the posters on here tonight I watched them win and thought "fuck, we're leagues behind".

When I tried to rationalise it I came to the conclusion that we are definitely not inferior to Spurs and, if anything, if we were in opposite positions now (ie. us in Champs league and them in Europa) we would be doing at least as well as they are...

Reasons:

1) City now have a worldwide reputation due to our wealth and spending and, as such, when we play clubs such as Notts County, Aris, Blackburn etc we would be a massive scalp. This, as we have seen, means the majority of sides who play us stick 11 men behind the ball and run themselves into the ground for 90 minutes which greatly limits our ability to win big, if at all (for now!)

2) Due to the unfortunate finish last season we find ourselves playing in the Europa against (no disrespect intended) smaller clubs who think they can't beat us. Spurs are in the champs league against great footballing sides who want to go out and play football and always think they can win.

3) As we have witnessed this season, when a team comes onto the pitch to play football with us (Arsenal aside) we generally dominate and go on to win very convincingly, the most recent exception being rags away where granny shagger snatched it with a one in a million goal.

Those points considered, it leads me to think that we are suffering at the minute because of our reputation and the subsequent performances of the clubs we're finding ourselves against.

Give us a year and (hopefully) champions league where teams will be out to play us (ala Blackpool!) and we will look like the City we all know are waiting to express themselves.

The theory sounds good but surely teams with no chance of outplaying in football terms, apart from those arse-lickin' shits who bend over for MANUre, which other teams in the PL, consistently have trouble beatin' park-the-juggernaut wallahs as we do? I think the mercurial Balotelli will go a substantial way towards breaking down these keep-what-we-came-with clubs 'cos he can conjure up the miraculous on a more consistent note than the media darling FatScouseGit.

Spot on Billy. They went to Sunderland which is an extremely tough place to go without 4 of their best midfielders and came from behind to win, they then followed it up with an excellent win in the San Siro last night. I was in a situation at around this stage last season thinking Spurs have got an extremely tough run in and we'll finish 4th, what it's taught me is not to write off Spurs because they are capable of going to places where they could slip up and pull a result out of the bag. Their game isn't all about pace, infact their two best players in Modric and Van Der Vaart aren't quick at all but they are outstanding in possession
