Why we're better than Spurs...

They battered us for one half at the beginning of this season and we had players that hadn't ever played a single game with each other and they were at home and they had a point to prove. The second half we held our own and if SWP wasn't a useless buttnugget we would have won since he missed a complete gift of a shot.

and the excuse for the home defeat-

They scored in extra time if I'm not mistaken.
Hardly streets ahead of us really. If it wasn't for that extra time winner, they wouldn't be playing Milan tonight.

Did I offer one? No? Feeling clever? You shouldn't since it stands to reason that since I didn't offer a reason (or excuse as you like to passive-aggressively imply) it means they were a better team then.

We play like we did in the derby and we beat the Spurs. That's the team we can be.[/quote]

well you were offering reasons as to why we got batterd at whl,so the simple question was have you any for the home defeat, now without chucking your toys out of the pram can you endulge in a adult conversation if not maybe its your bedtime

we got batterd down at whl, they beat us at home 3 months earler and secured 4th spot, i wouldnt bank on another 3 pts off them at home in april, bottom line is they are a bloody good team and i tend to agree with the other poster 'at the moment they are streets ahead'

Agreed. Their squad is much better at the moment. To bring on the likes of Modric, Woodgate and Kranjar and take off Van de varrt and Peinnar shows the quality in they have in depth. Spurs have had some injuries lately and still managed to get some important wins. In the meantime they can go to the San siro and play so magnificently. Were getting there and maybe its not streets ahead but they are better by quite a bit.

The argue in good faith instead of trying to get digs in.

Another reason why I think Spurs are a better team ATM is the coaching staff. Redknapp,Jordan, Bond and Allen all seem to be on the same page and theres a unity amongst everyone. Dont know why but I just dont get that feeling when I see Platt and Kidd on the bench.

You know what... I want to simply offer an apology to Marco. I read your post as a dig and maybe it's because of how negative it's been here tonight, but it wasn't fair of me. At all.

I'm sorry.

If I ever meet up with you, the drink is on me.

I'd say they're about even right now. Spurs have some really quality player in VDV and Modric and have a system to get the best out of them along with the likes of Bale and Lennon.

City have far more potential with their financial backing and if they qualify for the CL over Spurs they'll be much better going forward IMO. Assuming you hold onto Tevez that is.

Manchester United Fan in Peace - again just posting small points, you guys have some good discussions going on in your boards. Hope you don't mind me joining in every once in a while when there's not much going on in United's forums? Not much to talk about at the moment there (no arrogance intended) lol

I think comparing yourselves to Spurs is a bit of a tricky one tbh. Spurs have great coaching staff, stability and a team that has been built up slowly over years. Due to the way you're expanding quite rapidly, your team hasn't really developed much of a core apart from Carlos Tevez - all other players are constantly in and out, with players being sold within 2 seasons of joining the team. It makes it hard for your players to have a great understanding of each other.

Spurs has taken a while to build up but I do have to admit, even for me, I love watching them in the Champions League. Offensively they are one of the best sides in Europe with a midfield which I think is definitely one of the top three in the Premier League. Van der Vaart, Modric, Kranjcar, Bale, Lennon, Palacios, Sandro, Huddlestone...there is so much variation Redknapp can change things how he wishes. Even I at times envy their squad selection, although ours is very, very strong as well.

They lack a hardcore finisher though. Crouch is good but he is pretty much a one-trick pony and Defoe isn't consistent at all. Pav is good, however again lacks consistency.

You guys have your good points - on your day you can play really well. You have excellent ball holders you just have something missing in your team, hard to think of exactly what that is. Today you were admittedly not very creative or inspirational, but you still have a stronger squad.

That said, I've managed to convince myself that Spurs are a better team throughout this thread lol however maybe you guys just need to develop or purchase some youth players who'll bring qualities that aren't available on the market. That's what Tottenham have done, working for them at the moment...

Just the way they ae playing atm and the personnel they have. Even with their main players out they still beat likes of Sunderland and Blackburn away from home. Could we do that without Silva, Tevez and De Jong? Not sure we could.

But Spuds also lost at home to Wigan and Stoke if memory serves me correctly.

Wigan only mate.... we not played Stoke at home yet, that defeat was at the beginning of last season... 1 defeat (that Wigan one) at home in the PL in 26 games (Wolves in December 2009 was the previous loss) and 2 defeats in 36 homes games (Arsenal in the CC) in all comps....
