Wigans fan base is pathetic

Fair do's to the 20,000 odd that do make the decision to watch Wigan every week rather than taking the easy option of supporting one of the more successful clubs in local proximity.

My Youngest's Fella supports Wigan.

Crowd average 19K take off 3K for away fans - selling over 20K isn't bad.

I have a lot of respect for Wigan fans in a town dominated by Liverpool and United supporters with lots of rugby interest. At least they support their local club and can hardly be accused of being glory-hunters. If they have sold 20,000 that's equivalent to us selling 47,000 (average gate). In the middle of a recession that's an achievement.

+1

I have no problem with Wigan's following. Traditionally it's egg-chasing territory, so it's hard for the football club to compete with that. Also, I have a lot of time for their manager, who seems like a ''bloody good bloke, actually'' (© Tim nice but dim) and, unlike Stoke, they try to play football rather than hoofball. The chairman is a **** though!
