Wigans fan base is pathetic

Leeds had a steroid injection, look where it got them. None of the teams you have mentioned have played well enough to be in the league, and most of those teams are the richest ones in there leagues. You havent proved anything. Just because a team has a smaller fanbase doesnt mean they dont deserve to be in the league.

Wigan over the next 50 years might end up winning everything and the fanbase could become huge, we could get relegated and our fanbase gets a lot smaller, should we not be in the league ??
No, they didn't. They borrowed money by effectively mortgaging it against future TV revenue that never came. That's how they got in the shit. They didn't have money pumped in from the outside. Nor am I saying they deserve to be here just because they are a big club. I am saying that steroid injections into traditionally small clubs has hindered the chances of bigger clubs without the steroid injection and who have more right to be there. If the steroid small club outperforms the steroid big club you throw your hands up and say fair enough but if it's not a level playing field why should I respect that?

What are you even saying? You have tried to elicit a response on a hypothetical situation for which you have not supplied the parameters. Try giving more detail about the situation of the club before I can give you an answer. I'll try to save you some time though. I don't treat Wigan or Fulham any differently than if it were City in the same situation. I hope that's a good enough answer to prevent me having to decipher another set of gibberish.

What if a steroid big club outperforms a bigger club without a steroid injection, can you respect that?

So here we are discussing owners and their cash injections and then you create a hypothetical situation where you don't mention owners at all. Try providing some relevant context next time you imagine a hypothetical situation.

54 minutes played. PSG deservedly one-nil ahead via Pastore. Barcelona not as good without Messi. Bet I get hammered for posting yet more facts now.

Nope, you're right about PSG and Barcelona. The problem with your first "fact" was the bit when you said the Wigan Athletic aren't a Premier League club.

Prior to the creation of the Champions League oligarchy, no. Now it's simply levelling the playing field. The Champions League has been very damaging for football competitiveness because it created a self-perpetuating cycle and the only qualifying criteria was that you happened to be a top club when it was created. There's no reason why Chelsea formed part of that top four oligarchy. They aren't a historically highly successful team. Until Abramovich they'd won one league title in their history. It was luck effectively so I can't respect that either. I remain convinced of that even though we're now in the Champions League via a steroid injection. I completely understand the bitterness of Villa, Everton, Spurs and even Arsenal to an extent. I've said it many times. Check my posts if you want. :-)

If Everton Spurs and Arsenal fans feel bitter they need to direct their bile at their owners. They were after all 3 of the clubs (Rags and Liverpool being the others) who were the prime movers in the breakaway to form the Premier League, which in itself helped to trigger the new format CL which has resulted in clubs outside the cartel NEEDING a "steroid injection" to get any level of success.

Wigan are a small club in a rugby town and are punching well above their weight. Fair play to them.
They're punching above their weight because of Dave Whelan's cash injection which took them from being a non-league club for most of their history, then in the fourth flight, to the Premier League. I find it hard to believe they'd have managed that transformation without Dave Whelan's cash injection. Ditto Fulham and Al Fayed - although they'd at least been a top flight club very briefly in their history once before. I'd much rather have the non-steroid clubs.
Maybe so but that wouldn't drastically change the volume of support. They are still a small club that struggles to fill a small premiership stadium and have clearly had trouble filling a bigger allocation at wembley. I'm sure the fans that DO go and followed them in the lower divisions are in dream world these days.

My old man always goes on about how he saw Wigan Athletic play Altrincham in the Northern prem as a kid. Remarkable rise for a team with limited fan base.

A few thousand tickets on general sale, how many Hammers will buy those up to have a go at 'Wall?
