Wilfried Bony has confirmed that Manchester City are in talks with Swansea City over his £30 million transfer, with the striker’s agent claiming the deal could be complete “in the next few days”.
City are understood to have agreed personal terms with striker Bony over a contract worth around £100,000-a-week and are finalising the details of the £30 million deal with Swansea.
Bony travelled to Abu Dhabi, home of City’s owners, on Wednesdaynight to link up with the Ivory Coast for warm-weather training ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Asked about his move to City, Bony said: “The discussions are going on so I’m going away with my national team so I will focus on that. There has been no medical yet. It’s good to hear [about City’s interest]. Every player wants to play in the Champions a League.”
Bony’s agent, Francis Kacou, said: “We are in talks and we hope it will happen. There are a few minor hold-ups over money, but we are confident we can do a deal in the next few days.”
City are confident the £30m signing of Bony will not land them in any more hot water over Financial Fair Play.
Central defender Matija Nastasic and winger Scott Sinclair are set to leave Eastlands this month, but City insist that any departures are not linked to the purchase of Bony and trying to avoid another FFP punishment.
Uefa last season fined City £49m, £32m of which was suspended, and set a net spend limit of £49m for the summer and January transfer windows.
During the last transfer window, City spent roughly £50m on Eliaquim Mangala, Fernando, Willy Caballero and Bacary Sagna, who arrived on a free transfer. Of the players who left, around £23m was recouped from the sales of Jack Rodwell and Javi Garcia, while City were paid a £1m loan fee for Micah Richards by Fiorentina.
Striker Alvaro Negredo joined Valencia on loan in a deal that includes a £24m permanent transfer at the end of the season.
City do not disclose the exact transfer fees they pay and receive for players or whether or not the payments are staggered, but club accountants are satisfied that Bony can be signed without breaking any FFP restrictions or having to sell players.
Furthermore, Bony’s anticipated £100,000-a-week wages will not cause City any problems with Uefa.
Regardless of the Bony signing, City were this month planning to sell Nastasic and Sinclair. Nastasic is wanted by Schalke and AC Milan, and is likely to command a fee of around £10m, with City asking £3m for Aston Villa target Sinclair.
With Swansea expecting a deal for Bony to join City to be completed by the end of the week, they have also received interest from Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion for Bafetimbi Gomis.
Gomis had told Swansea that he wants to leave the Liberty Stadium this month and, despite Bony’s sale, the Frenchman could go if Swansea receive an offer in excess of £8m. But Gomis is pricing himself out of any prospective move with his £70,000-a-week wage demands.

Not 100% convinced about his ability to work in small spaces and would rather see Silva in behind Aguero, but the guy is a proven goalscorer and seems very grounded. With that attitude he won't go far wrong.
