Will they fire Mancini?

I'm sure that if we don't win the PL the owners will give him another summer transfer window to improve the squad/first 11. I think next windows aquisition(s) will define us for many seasons to come and to whether he is upto the job.

The only obstacle that I see for Mancini, which is actually out of his control, is getting rid of the deadwood which could have a severe impact on him having enough funds to aquire approximately 3/4 players we are short of i.e. the world class pacey winger to give us width, the world class ball playing CB, the world class box to box midfielder and maybe a striker depending on what happens with Dzeko and Tevez.

I have been supporting City for a long time and our resurgence has been fantastic to watch, but there are bound to be lots of ups and downs.

To be honest, I'm not even sure that winning everything at once will be that satisfying in the long term - part of the pleasure of supporting a team is celebrating the successes after suffering the bad times (and we've had enough of them!). And that is also why Rags will never get it!

I'm not what you would call a critical supporter, my glass will always be half full where City are concerned, so I'm looking forward to the title run-in with extreme excitement and, win or lose, I want Mancini to be there next season taking us onwards and upwards!

That's exactly what I want to see, it would be a huge step back in my estimation to sack Mancini just because he could miss out on the premier league this time!!!, it is only are our second go at trying to land a championship, and I was there in 1977 when we was pipped at the post, Its like people want everything now, bugger the it will take time theory, or lets spray the cash around until success come's, Mancini is trying to build a formidable team that in due time will sweep all before it, to say lets sack Mancini after a couple of bad results is very premature [ my rant over ]

I hope to god they don't sack him if we fail to win the league. There is no doubt we will sign a centre half in the summer, along with another creative midfielder me thinks. Mancini is an all round good guy with a mean streak with the players, it appears he manages the well and they like him, unlike them tossers at Chelski who used player power to get rid of a good young manager.
Issue is, will our owners think he has made a few too many errors with tactics and team selection recently.
3 or 4 players in the first half yesterday went missing and YaYa was played too deep as a defensive midfielder, when he moved up through the middle we were a lot better, but at least Mancini recognised that and changed it, as he always does.
Keep him City, he's good for the club, the players and the fans......

Does anyone think Mancini will succeed in Europe?

Yes I think he will. I actually think the way he thinks as a coach is more suited to Europe than it is to the premiership. The players need to shoulder a hefty amount of the blame for going out to Lisbon and the Swansea game in the middle. There's no getting away from that.

Dax - there's absolutely no way that Mancini will get sacked for not winning the league this season. It's just not conceivable in my opinion. We'll see what happens with his contract renewal though, because I think winning the league might be the difference between being offered one straight away, or having to wait to see how next season goes.
I hope not. But I fear the stakes have been raised. And if he fails to win the league, he just might get the pinkslip :(

FUnny enough, had we started the league averagely good, and finished out with a flurry of wins like we did to start the season, I'd say sure thing, he definitely isn't getting fired. But if we finish out the season as inconsistently as we hae the last few months, he likely will. The bench mark was set pretty high, with the great performances to start the season.

If his abilities were suited to Europe, why is he so good domestically but been sacked for disappointing in Europe?

When he first came here, I thought he just needed more experience to succeed in Europe. But the reality is that his results are actually worse with us than Inter. We got booted out of the Europa League just as easily by a mid table Portuguese side as the Ukrainian club did last year.

Despite the money we spent in the summer, none of it translated into progress in Europe. We're still the comedic billionaires who half arse their way out of Europe against poor and obscure opposition. This is Sporting's worst team in 36 years. How the fuck did we get any better? That clown AVB pissed this competition.

If he wins the league, I think we should keep him for sure. It's just that eventually the owners will want something from Europe, and based on history they would have to wonder if that's even possible under Roberto.

If he wins the Leagure - he will stay. If he doesn't, he will most likely leave.

First, nobody in the club has yet discussed extension to Mancini's term yet - this is saying something.

Second, Mancini got everything he wanted and produced less than expected. The budget he worked with exceeds the budgets of the entire competition. He was adamant about bringing Dzeko - and for what?? City does not need Dzeko. Dzeko is alright - but he isn't what city needs right now. So thats 30 mil spent in vain.

It is true that during Mancini's era MCFC has grown. But I cannot agree that Mancini was a huge contributor to that success. Sheikh is the contributor. The expensive players are the contributors. Mancini, as a manager, failed to fit all the pieces into a team that is 10+ points above the rags, which is what he should have done considering the budget he was given to work with.

Year on year we try to improve our playing staff.

As someone pointed out, we no longer have Stephen Ireland playing for us as David Silva is patrolling the same territory the Irish maestro once did. An upgrade for sure.

Hughes went. Mancini arrived. Ditto.

Some have suggested Mancini will be fine with another 3/4 players in positions where we are weak.

We already have the third best squad in Europe, so add another 100 million and we will be almost as high in quality as Madrid, and bar Messi will probably have more power than Barca.

Given all that, do we want to continue with a highly competent but ultimately not absolutely top drawer coach?

We have a very expensive team, but it is certainly NOT the 3rd best squad in Europe. Not even certain it is the best in England. Best first 11 in England, but not that great in many areas and overstocked in other areas.
