Will we beat Hamburg? Yes or no?

At home yes away no and at best we'd be looking for a draw. MH is clueless away and we will be found out by Hamburg who are a descent outfit

We will go to defend for 90 minutes get stuffed 4-0, then play them off the park in the second leg and win 3-0, and then we will all be on here slagging Agent Hughes off who will have blown our chance of silverware.

Can’t see us getting past a decent outfit when we have struggled against any decent sides

I will hope and pray, but I fear this is the end of the line.

I must have dreamed that we beat CL QF team Arsenal 3-0 this season then!!
That’s right we beat Arsenal 3-0.

That means we will beat Hamburg over 2 legs.

Are you for fcuking real?, you pick a decent result out of a season where we have under performed on the whole and use it to justify an argument ?

Try looking at our away form and Hamburg’s home form, and then you might have a reality check,

To progress we need to win away.

It is justifiable to think we have a chance and clearly wrong to state we have struggled against any decent sides as you have written.
Am not saying we will get through on the basis that we beat Arsenal, merely pointing out we have got results against decent teams this season (not just Arsenal, also Villa and Liverpool recently).

got to play them at some point, truthfully the other 7 teams left whoever we drew could go either way.

As mentioned earlier on in the thread i think people are forgetting that by the time it comes round for the second leg at least we should have a fit bellamy and petrov which means moving robinho back to where he's best playin off the striker as said previous i think if this is the case we will be through to the semis.

Hamburg are a decent side and very good at home won 10 drawn 1 lost 1 in the league BUT Schalke have also only lost 1 in the league at home so we can get something there. Away from home they are not great and we can beat them. Its a massive advantage playing the second leg at home, i think it will tip the balance in our favour. If we play to our best then over 2 legs we will do it.

I would rather have avoided Hamburg but to be honest i just have a really strong feeling this will be our year and i dont fear anyone left in the comp, i dont thin anyone is going to stop us. Winning on pens last night will have reinforced the players beleif and i think they will be mentally strong and very much up for this.

Joe from HH...are you indicating that you think Kompany and De Jong are rubbish, we overpaid for them or both?

Well, Kompany was known as "big talent", but he wasnt good in Hamburg at all. He wasnt playing much and the fans of Hamburg were chearing a lot when City spent 10 Billion € for him.
I had expected that someone would buy him for ~5 Billion €...and that would be a fair deal.

De Jong was a very important player for Hamburg, however, he played only 10 games for Hamburg in first leg. When Hamburg received the 20(!) billion € bidding there was no other way to sell him, because Hamburg has played without de Jong well too.

Hamburg has enough money to refuse biddings(like 22 billions for van der Vaart from Valencia) for the top players(16th of most turnover in europe), but that bidding was so unreal, you have to sell for this amount of money. On the german forums fans of the Bundesliga were stunned and even now it comes to jokes like "This player would cost about 10 billion, if City doesnt call...".
Dont get me wrong. De Jong is a very good player but he isnt nearly 20 billion € worth. Maybe 10, but not 20...

Thanks for the response.

I'm sure we will pay over the odds for a number of players before we get to where we want to be. Especially when these players play for clubs who do not need the money, of which Hamburg are one.

I'm very interested on your view of Kompany as he has been outstanding for us this season. I seem to remember at the time of his transfer to City, that Hamburg did not want him to play in the Olympics for Belgium whilst Kompany did. I believe he stayed in Beijing which upset Hamburg. Very strange that Hamburg did not want Kompany to play in the Olympics considering he was regarded as being 'Not very good' and 'Not playing much'.

Well the Olympics came at the start of the season and obviously Jol wanted Kompany to stay with the club, help get a good start and all that. As a comprimise, they agreed that he'd play two games in China and then return in time for the start of the BL, something like two or three days. But then when the time came, he threw a tantrum. So you can imagine how well that went down with the board.

About him being "not very good" - he had alot of personal problems and injuries that basically got the better of him. His first season with us only consisted of 6 games because of injury and about a year ago (I think), his mother died. So his head was all over the place and was even sent home to "rest" too. I don't think we ever saw him at his best, which is why most HSV fans weren't THAT sad to see him go. Whether he turns into this quality talent is one thing but based on what we saw, he didn't have the mentality.

Based on what you say though, it seems he's put all that behind him with the fresh new start and has settled in well. Good for him. :-)

Anyway, my predictions: 1-1 at COMS. 2-0 to us in HH. Sorry :-D
