Wolves (A) Post Match Thread

Maybe we weren’t at our best but Jesus we should of won that game easily. Shocking refereeing for their goal and could easily of had one or two penalties. Woodwork three times, plenty of good chances and Jesus has to score that header at the end.

I agree, but not shocking ref for their goal.

None of our players where claiming handball. If Ederson had run to the ref or one of the defenders than I agree. It all happened quickly and was kind of hid by his head.

Aguero one no but Silva one yes for me.

Such a shame the free kick did not go in, I think a late goal and a win would really have set the tone and helped demoralise our title challenges.

Lol. Ok bud. Just had a row with the missis so you had the backlash. Fair do’s ;)
I think your wrong about Mendy though. He had such a bad injury -about as bad as it gets for a footballer - that it’ll take time to be able to turn naturally which I think where his problems stem from at the moment. I’m convinced he’ll be absolutely awesome when he gets his full flow back. I’m no happy clapper mate, just thought we played ok but we’re done by the ref and their keeper. Peace out :)

I’m guessing most of us had rows at some point yesterday with our other halves ;)

We’ll agree to disagree then on this one then mate but my reaction to Mendy yesterday wasn’t knee jerk. I said this when he signed. I know how limited he is at defending and I see him more as a wing back than an out and out full back. I feel in a 3-5-2 he can do a job but a back 4 he will be targeted. He just isn’t a good defender. Incredible athlete though and his crossing is up there with the best.

I obviously really hope in time you come out on top in this discussion but I very much doubt you will I’m afraid.

If Mendy continues to stick a token leg out he will not only concede a few penalties this season, but will also likely suffer another cruciate knee injury.

He's either tackling from the wrong side, standing square on or retreating back towards his own penalty area.

One weakness has been particularly exposed in a couple of our games so far against Arsenal and Wolves.

Mendy has been unaware of a player behind him on a flighted angle ball and both Bellerin and the lad yesterday, were able to bring the ball down and take him with ease before getting a shot off inside the penalty area.

Another area of major concern for me is that while I love Bernardo, he's taking a proper attacker out of the side with flank pace, which seems to expose Walker even more.

Again, Mendy on the other side is taking Sane or Mahrez out of the starting eleven.

Pep said this new formation is bringing rewards because we are creating more chances against teams behind the ball, but we always found a way last season, nine times out of ten.

This present set-up takes attacking pace out of the team in the boxes and there is less of a fear factor for our opponents when they see Sane and Sterling are not playing from the start.

Let's get back to what made us so successful, Pep can overthink things at times, case in point being Liverpool away in Champions League last year?

Personally, would like to see Mahrez moved into the number ten, with Sane and Sterling either side of Sergio, with Dave sitting deeper alongside Fern.

Means nothing now, obviously, but Mahrez needs to grow a pair to find his place on this team.

It must be difficult, but I would have told Sergio to piss off over that last minute free-kick.

Aguero might have hit the bar but outside of KDB, 20 yards from goal, there is nobody better in this league than Mahrez from free-kicks.

Agree with everything you say about Mahrez just hope he isn’t star struck and goes into his shell and Pep must see something in training for not picking him.

I do not see him as greedy but more single minded in front of goal. The reason Aguero has such a great goal scoring record is whether he misses one or two chances he will still be making the runs and getting into the positions to score the goals and taking responsibility in those moments.

From memory yesterday there was possibly one time where arguably he could have tried to square it to Sterling but in all honesty if he is in a decent position himself he should take the shot.

People always say if he passed it just there it was a certain goal but for Serg in that moment he may not know if the player is offside, a defender is just running back to block the route of the pass and then he has to get right the lower/direction on the pass and his teammate has to control it succcessfully. Taking into account all those variables the right decision is typically to take the shot.

I get what you're saying but it's not only a case of taking a shot when he could have passed the ball. He also seems to try running through 2 or 3 players to get to goal. That is what I find more frustrating.
