Wolves PL (A) | Post Match Discussion

Apart from the Alvarez free kick that was a truly awful performance. Defensively we were wide open, especially down the left, every time they countered. Creativity was virtually zero, hence the big fella not getting any chances.
They had a game plan that worked very well on the day but they are still an average team. Play like that in the next few games and we will suffer.

Too many injuries and a suspension in a period where there are lots of games.

We have lost a couple of key players and we are incorporating new players.

Plus we don’t know what the psychological effects are for players who know that last season was the summit.

It may be that things don’t improve in the coming week with tough opponents

But Pep will have a plan and we will improve.

Today is disappointing but nothing that can’t be rectified.

I guess you must have watched a different match. Wolves had the better chances? What chances?
I didn’t say that, I said it ‘seemed’ like… They seemed to repeatedly cause us problems on the break. We created nothing clear cut either, despite 23 attempts.

To be fair, the heartbeat of our side has always been our central midfield under Pep. You stop that and you stop City.

We can probably cope with losing 2 out of KDB, Rodri and Bernardo, but not losing all three. To miss those three players at the same time is just unfortunate.

That said, I find it staggering that Foden isn’t the first name in the middle of the park at the moment.
Today wasn't a day to play two forwards. It just wasn't working.

We should've rested one from Haaland/Alvarez & stiffened up the midfield in the absence of Rodri, Bernardo & KDB.

Surely this would've been better?

Doku-------Alvarez-------Bobb
-----------------Foden---------------
-------Kovacic-------Nunes/Grealish----

Dawson was roughing up Haaland & barely gave him a sniff. Haaland's no Kane who can drop deep into a No.10 role to stifle the opposition knowing we've got the pace & trickery of Doku & Bobb out wide & the creativity of Foden behind to unlock deep lying defences.

With Kovacic & Nunes/Grealish in behind, we'd have stifled the midfield today & not given them a sniff, whilst still posing a major threat.

Pep probably wouldn't have started like this, but the option was there to change to this line up, especially after we drew level.

It was a poor day all round from managerial decisions to player performances.

Today felt like Newcastle away last season who were fired up after the Almiron comments by Grealish. Nunes gave Wolves fans the same gumption.

We all have to get used to losing again, even having bad days with teams where we are told it's away banker 3 points in the bag, I could run the rule over the game and play the blame game (stick the tail on the pony) but what is the point when the whole team was off it,

That feels wildly flattering. Anyone who watched that entire match I think would agree that it didn't feel like we were going to score in the slightest.
Nope.didn't feel like that to me at all. It was always going to be difficult when a team throws 11 men behind the ball but I always thought we'd get another. Both of theirs were flukey, and as others have said the Korean should have even been on the pitch for the second, but that summed it up for me really.

We lost so it's just the usual overeacting as always.

Nothing sums up that game like these stats:

Too bad there isn’t a “Poor Ref” and “Yellow Cards” stat, because they would help explain just how mental those stats are!

Without Rodri and Stones oud defensive mid is poor. We had slow crabs on the pitch today. Left to right right to left all game.
Shambolic actually.
We missed Bernardo today as well.

kovavic is not Gundugon and Nunes is no Rice/Bellingham. Less said about Phillips the better.

Our transfer policy was reactive this summer and it showed a little on the players we eventually ended up who were playing in today’s midfield. Losing Gundogun too hurted us.
We may end up being treble winners again so I will still wait till the season ends but our transfer policy this summer was not usual for a club like ours.

“Now” don’t be silly. I’ve been saying it since the start. Kovacic and nunes are just not it. Can’t play without rodri, so we’re relying on him staying fit all season again.
Same position as last season but without gundogan
Well I guess you’re the expert :)

I have to say Haaland if he doesn't score is almost a liability and your playing with a man down, if he wants to be a true world class player ( Not wc goalscorer) he is going to have to contribute far, far more.
True, but we never really got anything in to him as our midfield creativity was lacking and our other attacking players were off it as well.
