Wolves post match

No offence but have you actually been watching our games this season???

Everyone we have played other than Liverpool and Napoli tried to do what wolves did, they haven't shown anyone anything new.

Burnley, Stoke, Chelsea, Palace - they all did exactly the same as Wolves.

The difference is that with our usual backline, counterattacking fails, Fernandinho and Delph mop everything up and Stones+Otamendi are also vital to the very fast build up play which has seen us tear through those parked busses.

If teams try to emulate wolves then it'll be business as usual.
I thought wolves packed their box much more than anyone else we've faced all season.

Only Bravo played really well. Most of the others looked like players who haven't played much, which is exactly what they are. To be so critical of Mangala, Zinchenko, Toisin, Yaya etc is harsh. What did you expect, that having played no minutes, they would come in playing like the first team??
I thought the first half was pretty good, missing the target didn't help but build up was ok. We lacked a few in the box for crosses, which is probably why Zinchenko stopped crossing so much as the game went on. A few poor decisions in and around the box with the final pass didn't help but overall it wasn't bad. As the game went on and match fatigue struck, the game became more even.
Wouldn't want to judge anyone on that though, they all worked hard and we're in the next round.

Great game to watch Zinchenko worked hard but was knackered at the end .we missed a shed load of chances then Bravo came to our rescue

From what I saw Wolves played very well. Considering they made more changes than we did I think they rose to the occasion. In fairness we weren’t great and our quality showed in the shootout. We will probably end up playing them in the premier league next season.

How is that different to Stones last season? He's not a blood and thunder centre back, he's a calm, measured one. He needs confidence and experience. We could potentially save the bother of another 50m if he turns into Stones mark II

It isn't, that's the problem. You can't compare the Stones of last season to this, it is chalk and cheese. The thing Stones had in his favour over Tosin is that we paid £50m for him and therefore was always going to get chances to improve and cement his place. Tosin isn't going to get those chances, when he gets his occasional game in the side, he needs to be at a level where the manager is like "Wow, who is this kid"? Look at the likes of Sancho, Diaz and specifically Foden. All performing to an extremely high standard at youth level, a huge amount of excitement and noise around them and then in Fodens case an exceptional pre-season with the 1st team.............not been seen since. That's not Fodens fault, he has done everything asked of him but its extremely difficult for any kid to break into this side. You compare his performance levels to Tosin, albeit in a different position and it is impossible to see Tosin ever breaking into this team. I know it might seem harsh to pick out a kid but it is the harsh realities of coming through the youth ranks of a top side.

Worryingly, I suspect Wolves have just shown the PL clubs - or those outside the top 6 perhaps - how to play us.

No-one wants to get reamed 6-0, so park the bus big time and hold out for a 0-0 and you know what, you could even nick it with a break away goal.

I fear we are going to see much more of this. That said, we'll not play as shockingly as that in a long time.

There were nine changes , apart from obviously weakening our side , the team that played last night looked dis-jointed and with a completely new back four there was always going to be chances for the opposition , we have a very strong 14/15 players and another half a dozen who can come in and do a decent job when needed , West Brom on Saturday will be business as usual , attack against defence with KDB , Merlin etc. pulling the strings.

Good practice for playing at the shithole in December. May have ended 0-0 but it'll be a long time before we miss that many chances again. Not worried about the Wolves chances, they wouldn't have gotten them against Fernandinho, Stones, Ota and Ederson.

It was our chance to show we had the players to come in and play, breakdown a team which we knew would have everyone behind the ball most of the time. We rode our luck, if they’d had a quality striker, we would be looking at some media wankfest this morning.
Poor finishing and implementation of some players who are clearly not at the standard required to play the system Pep wants. At least this was a good benchmark to use for training evolutions against teams who want to ‘park it’.
Onwards and upwards, but WBA I fear will adopt the same tactics. Hopefully Gundi isn’t too badly injured. That match took a lot out of those players.

Wolves were excellent , but they came to keep the score down , its a lot easier for a coach to set up his side with ten men behind the ball and then hoof it up the field. Pep brought in nine players to create , entertain and win a match , which as proved was not easy when the opposition do not want to cross the half way line for 120 minutes.

Wolves created three breakaway chances ,and yet Sterling, Aguero , Sane , jesus and a couple of others all missed chances they would normally put away blindfolded , but the media narrative is Wolves had the three best chances of the game , is there some sort of agenda :)
