Wolves post match

Always thought this one would be tight. At least the reality check came in a game where we cant drop points.

I don't think opposing managers will have learned that much from seeing a disjointed version of our team having an off night. It's not as if every other manager out there wont have weighed up the merits of parking the bus against us before. It's a pretty obvious tactic to use so I'd hesitate before we start worrying that we've now been "found out".

Good performance from Wolves who broke well and defended great. Gave up no space behind them and kept calm in the box with Raheem running at them. When they did seem to crack a little under the pressure they quickly regained their composure. Would to have seen Raheem on the ball more but he seemed to move centrally and become less involved. Danilo and Zinchenko got into good positions and seemed to float balls over to the keeper rather than look for a pull back but it was the lack of movement through the team that meant we weren't moving their defence around enough. Would like to have seen more from Bernando running and dribbling forwards but there was so little space as wolves defending the penalty box so well

Mangala was a complete liability. Yaya wasted his complete game coming short to collect the ball as Mangala is a clown of a defender and offers nothing bringing the ball out.

Zinchenko was equally rubbish. Even when not pretending to be a left back, his supposed core talent of being a winger is non existent. The great wingers (Sane) have pace and technique, average wingers have just one (Roberts/BeagrieTechnique, White Pace), Zinchenko incredibly has managed to forge a career on the back of having neither.

Yes he would stay wide but had no ability to beat his man and gave up trying. He became a hindrance eventually as every ball that went out to him was, after a series of slow pointless passes, fed back inside.

In short, we have been a fortunate to come through that unscathed, as playing with Zinchenko was like being anchored down and with Mangala was like being a man light.

Hope to see neither of those in a City shirt again.

P.S. Bravo you're forgiven.
Zinchenko was rubbish??? It was his first team debut, played out of position , and I reckon he contributed more than anyone other than Bravo last night

No offence but have you actually been watching our games this season???

Everyone we have played other than Liverpool and Napoli tried to do what wolves did, they haven't shown anyone anything new.

Burnley, Stoke, Chelsea, Palace - they all did exactly the same as Wolves.

The difference is that with our usual backline, counterattacking fails, Fernandinho and Delph mop everything up and Stones+Otamendi are also vital to the very fast build up play which has seen us tear through those parked busses.

If teams try to emulate wolves then it'll be business as usual.
Spot on and I'd add that by playing Yaya the pace of our team reverts to walking pace - this allows a team time to be organised. This year as you say when teams set up deep they still can't handle us because Kevin played in that pivotal role and his passing and movement is always positive, quick and forward which is a nightmare to defend.

1st half was mostly good i thought, only thing missing was a goal. I was quite confident at half time that a goal would come. Aguero was getting in some decent positions and i thought he was bound to score sooner or later! But you have to congratulate Wolves. they defended well and they did have the best clear cut chances!

Its not easy making 9 changes including a whole new back 5 who havent really played with each other before. Tosin and zinchenko did pretty well i thought. But manga just doenst fill you with confidence does he, even though i thought he was fouled twice for 2 of the 3 one on ones that wolves had. but he needed to be stronger and deal with the situations quicker before he was put under pressure. Bravo was superb and im chuffed for him.

Apart from wolves heart and endeavor and defending well, i think one of our problems last night was through the lack of pace of yaya. when he had the ball it slowed our play up. The legend doesnt have the legs for a pep team hence his appearances will be few and far between this season.

On the plus side our penalties were probably the best set of 4 i have ever seen :-)

Who is this Bravo fellow people speak of? I didn't realise we'd signed a new keeper.

Just kidding.

I think they provided us with a good test of what it's like to play a team who park the bus (the Rag's), and look for options to hit us on the break. Let's be honest, if that was last season we would have lost that game. But we defended well enough, and our keeper had his best game in a City shirt last night (about time). Maybe if that was a Premier League front line instead of a Championship front line it might have been different, but you can only play what's in front of you.

Hopefully other teams don't see that as a blueprint for how to stifle our creativity, because those kind of anti-football tactics belong to a bygone era.

No need for the panic on here. Its good to draw a cup game as no points lost and we are still through. Rather that than we beat Wolves and draw at WBA....

Hopefully reap the benefits at West Brom of resting Ederson, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph, Fernandinho, Silva & partly KDB and Sane.

Learnt quite a lot last night. Bravo is a quality back up keeper, Zinchenko may be good enough if his fitness improves, Mangala has IMO used up all his chances and has to be moved on a.s.a.p, Yaya cannot be considered as a starter any longer as his legs have gone, Danilo is a solid if unspectacular player, Tosin needs to bulk up a bit but has overtaken Mangala. All in all poor performance which with all the changes was going to happen, happy to have gone through. Give us a home tie against Bristol please
