Wolves - post match

eh?

we had 10 men for nearly all the game. And we scored 2 goals during that period.

Better all over, my arse.

We where utter fucking pish from the first to the last minute.

10 men had fuck all to do with us being so off it last night it was painful to watch.

As poor a performance as you will see in fact it looked like a City side form 20 years ago last night.

Full disclosure, Liverpool fan here, and I know that gets me a lot of bile and hate on here so sorry. But, with all due respect, I just think its a bit crazy how little some people know they have. You’re looking at a team that was in the 2nd division this millennium, almost - they’ve won the centurion season (best season in PL history to me) and then the treble last year. And now you’re looking at the apparently horrific prospect of being the 2nd best side in the whole country and probably still winning 2 or 3 cups.

Your team is injury ravaged (I agree Pep should have replaced Vinny) and the desire to maintain implausible standards at the top DOES go after a couple of years, so a lull was always expected. Any club in the world apart from maybe 3 or 4 would trade positions with you right now, with the ridiculous squad and manager you have. I guess my point is, I’m surprised more people on here aren’t just enjoying the ride more. Not everything has to be a conspiracy by the FA, not everything will always go your way. But it will soon, and I guess I meant to say chin up?

Macken would have done better than Sterling up top.

Mendy isn't shit. Our support can be. Mendy has got bottle but needs our support. He'll get it too.
Ok , hes not shit. But he is so far off form and i just dont think he’ll be back to pre injury levels. That mistake was sunday league level last night.

i support the team full on when attending the game but as this is a football forum for opinions and letting off steam ill say what i wish

How is Sane's and Laporte's injury down to physios?

That's just not true. They have had more injuries than we have but their squad is balanced. Our squad is not. Mind you had they lost TAA or Van Dijk they'd have dropped points.
They haven’t lost any significant players though have they... somebody else said we look fatigued or unfit... they don’t

the two injuries you referred to seem be unrelated to conditioning but I can’t say they’re not, can you?

I called it at 2-0 as we couldn’t keep the ball.
We didn't have the personality as a team to impose our game on Wolves. We felt tired and just decided to defend the box. Pep took KDB off. Mahrez went off. Sterling went into hiding and isn't the best at holding the ball up anyway. I feared at 2-0 they'd get one back straight away and from that moment I knew they'd win. At 75 mins or so, I began to hope but it wasn't to be.

Wolves over-powered us. It's not our season in the league for a variety of reasons. Hard to take a defeat but we should learn as a group and as fans because that is the time your failings get exposed and you have the chance as an individual to see your errors and do something about it.

The trouble for us is that Otamendi and Fernandinho are lions, but both players legs are going. We can do nothing as a team until Laporte returns. We will just have to soldier on and minimise the damage. I have wondered ever since Laporte got injured as to whether Fernandinho and Ota was the right call when we have two young central defenders. It's a big call to make but young players like Foden, Rashford, Trent etc have all played at a very young age. For me ota and fernandinho are incredibly poor that it's just not tenable to rely on them. What else can we do? Clearly now Pep is going to stick with them until Laporte returns.

Writing is on the wall for Stones unless he really seizes his chance. He has been getting injuries every 2-3 games and I don't think Pep feels he can play him. He may have to in the coming days.

We need to come through this period but it's going to be difficult with a glaring weakness in the squad.

That’s quite a simplistic way of looking at it don’t you think? Just looking at the time the goals were scored and saying well we must have been good as we had 10 men?

We were shocking. City have dominated games with 10 men over recent years, we still keep our identity, we still control the game, we still play with a personality and confidence that says who we are. This was a surrendering. It was pathetic. No control of the ball, no intelligence from the majority of players out there. And Pep had a really poor day of decision making to compound it further.

I see a few people on twitter this morning saying that Mendy was fouled in the lead up to the equaliser. Not for me. He was outmuscled. Telling that, IIRC, no City player appealed for a foul.

We had ten men for 80 minutes and blew a gasket, what do you expect?

We barely managed a fucking pass or to out run a player for the 10 minutes we had 11.

We where utterly abject last night, no game plan, no tactics, no pace, no ball retention, no movement, no defence, no passing, no idea, no brains, no leadership, no decent substitutions to try and change it, no goalkeeper, no decent full backs, no one able to lead the line and keep the ball to release pressure, no CB's able to track a run and keep up with an attacker etc etc etc.

We got gubbed because we where utter shite.

It's the crazy Xmas schedule and City had no centre-forward because of the ten men. At this moment in the season, and with the injuries it's stupid to expect anything else than what you saw.

I swear Laporte becomes a better defender with every defeat. Don’t get me wrong, he’s probably the best defender in the league but you read some of the comments and you’d think we never lost a game with him on the pitch last season. I get the frustration but we were playing with 10 fucking men. Mendy and Otamendi are, lets be honest, a bit shite and even with Laporte playing it’s hard to say whether the errors they made would’ve still cost us goals or not. The team is losing its core of leaders (Fernandinho and Silva) and the new boys ain’t it.

Funny thing though when Sterling was pushed in the back like that but not as hard we all thought it should of been a penalty to City !
So I guess pushing City players isnt a foul ;)

For me the difference is that last night it was a shoulder barge which I think is still part of the game whereas pushing is not.

No not for me either. If that was classed as a foul then literally when a players shields a ball in a corner there would be no way of winning it back and the tackle was very similar to how we press and win the ball back in the midfield and one of our most famous city goals when the Goat robbed Neville.

No excuse there and Mendy was clearly at fault. Just about summed up the night.

We are just in a bad moment. The subs bench was nearly all defence-minded players. We were struggling but somehow got a winning position and played it very poorly from there.

Normally City would try and impose our game on the opponent even with 10 men but we were not able to do that yesterday. We didn't even try. Pep gambled and took off KDB. Can see why he did it. Once he went off there was no way we were going to do anything else but defend the box.

It was one of those games where the writing was on the wall from the moment when Ederson went off because this group of players is not at the moment in the physical and mental conditon to play as a strong group. We know we have a rubbish defence. Everyone knows it, and it is wrecking every aspect of our game including our mentality.

Liverpool's mentality allows them to win every game no matter how oor individuals are on the night. Our mentality has been shot to pieces because we know we have a big weakness. Ederson was conscious of that.
