Wolves - post match

I actually thought Mendy had been playing OK up until that mistake. That was unforgivable though. Was he trying to shepherd it out for a corner?! What on earth was he thinking?
I thought he was OK too. Lots of our defenders were just clearing their penalty area but he was passing it and most of the time finding a man. Crazy decision making at the end. He knows it.

I don't recall whether it was going out for a corner. He made a mistake. The game was littered with them. Mendy was a great player for a brief period. There are signs his game is returning. He was out for 2 years. That is a long time. And he had major surgery. Twenty years ago his playing career would be over. Let us hope he continues to improve.
Marvin was clear as day gonna be a corner came of Walkers head was right in front of us and just watched it again on City app. Just cant get my head round why he then tries to shield it out of play rather than planting it in row z.

But if we were top and the pen wasn’t given, what would it matter? You thought it wasn’t a pen, so it would have been the right decision....

No Foden again last night, no we didn't really need any energy on the pitch did we, not when the majority of our players were blowing out of their arses. That game was tossed aside last night, should've been managed so much better, and it's also left our best player with a face like a smacked arse when substituted. Apart from the Derby, this game has really pissed me off, simply not acceptable.

Like many on here I thought the red on Ederson was harsh. Yes he was rash but did he actually make a challenge on Jota or did Jota deliberately make sure he ran into him? To me it seemed Ederson did not alter his path to take the player down once the ball had gone by. Jota went out of his way to initiate contact much as a striker would by trailing his leg in the box to win a pen.
I don’t suppose we will appeal (or will we?) but how long will Ederson be suspended for? Is it 3 or 1 given it was a professional foul?
Might be worth an appeal. I thought exactly the same as you. I am not sure if he made a mistake in coming out. Had the Wolves player gone round him, the City defenders may have been able to deal with it but the Wolves forward made sure he carried on. An awkard call to make for a referee. No way as clear cut as the commentators made out. If it was the other way around I'd want a sending off. I haven't watched it back again and I am not sure whether ederson made a calculated gamble to disrupt the attack outside the area or whether he thought he would get to the ball first.

Wolves were a disgrace last night, a throw back to the Italian teams of the 60's and 70's, falling over and play acting at the drop of an hat with a topped up bank holiday friday drunken fan base screaming for everything like a gang of screaming school girls, no wonder we got spooked out of it. Oh and if they didn't like Mahrez it wasn't half as bad as turning and blatant handball into a diving header, cheating cnuts.

I agree I think if the wolves player doesnt touch the ball it's just a clash of players, nothing given but as soon as the wolves player made contact with the ball Eddie was in trouble.

For what it’s worth, my thoughts on last nights game.

Firstly, I watched it with my city mad missus using amazon prime & after 5 mins we switched to the option to listen without the commentary & only hearing the crowd noise. This was a revelation & an absolute joy not listening to any more of the total drivel spewing from the commentators up to this point.

Secondly, I also followed the game on the match thread for a while too, but it seems to be a particularly bitter place this season & not remotely enjoyable. I honestly think there are quite a few on there that should have a good look at themselves.

Thirdly, the game. Whilst WBA is absolutely the love of my life, I have been thoroughly enjoying having ‘an affair’ with MCFC over the last few years & appreciate the amazing quality of the players, tactics & football on show, especially after the awful pulis years at my club.

Last nights game was very weird. I thought the sending off was correct & it was refreshing to see City actually get the correct VAR decisions with the penalties. That said, how can VAR have looked at the mendy incident leading to the equaliser & not have seen it as anything other than a foul on mendy? It was yet another poor VAR decision that City seem to have been on the wrong side of all season.

I thought the whole team were guilty of gifting possession back to wolves all night & it seemed inevitable that wolves would score. That said, I didn’t see wolves scoring three tonight as they just didn’t create too many great chances. A few long range shots & set piece scrambles, but City defended pretty well for the most part.

Finally, you have to give credit to wolves, they are a very decent side & generally play good football. City worked very hard last night & wolves had to work incredibly hard to beat a 10 man City.

I hope you are right because at the moment the thought 600milrs per game ti watch us mostly get screwed by VAR and the press/media is wearing abit thin on me :(
It's not every day you watch your side pass on their title to another side.

I wish it had gone toe to toe and I think it would have done had we not lost Laporte. Now we're entering every game with self doubt and every opponent knows City have a weakness which they can play for. I am really glad that Laporte is back at Carrington. Presumably he will be back with the group soon enough.

When Laporte returns, then battle commences. This has been damage limitation for 5 months, and we have done a poor job.

We should be grateful that SPurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd are so poor. There is only one great side in the league at the moment, but City will be back. It's one player. We'll be back soon enough.

Raz has been phoning it in recently. I think a little sit down alongside pep for a while is in order, like Leroy at different times

Instead of embracing it and making it so, the adulation and talk of worlds best player seem to have gone to his head. He's been poor (by his standards) for some time.

I was hoping the Gomez thing and subsequent press vitriol would be a kick up the arse and remind him he hasn't reached the top of the mountain yet, but nope.

(Great goal for the second tho)

Excellent summary.

City would in most situations defend by keeping ball possession but we are tired and have a fractured defence so we opted just to defend the box. Ahd the title been on the line I don't think we'd have switched off.

Mendy needs to make the right decisions on the pitch. Hopefully that is a learning experience. He's a very good player. Whether he can return to his best we have to see. I thoguth he was fouled too.

It's strange watching City play now. We all know the team has a big fracture in the defence and we've not been like that for years. It's temporary though. I thought Laporte was the best defender in the Premier League before he was injured. When he returns, Stones can play off him. And City will be back.

The reality is that Pep lost us that game by taking Kevin off. After that we had no out ball and the pressure piled on.

Wasn't impressed with any of our defence and Clownio diving over two shots said it all.

BTW I said that if we don't contain Traore we lose the game. That is what happened.
As to the sending off of Ederson, how can any VAR official not see that the Wolves player went for the contact.

Have you forgotten how good he was prior to his injury? He has potential, alot of it. Be patient my friend, this team is in transition.

I and Manchester City have waited over 3 years for this potential, still waiting for JFS to deliver

  1. Raz gave the ball away and they scored their 1st,
  2. Mendy was fouled but should have cleared it for their 2nd.
  3. The decision to take KDB off was madness.
  4. When are we going to start with 2 centre halves?
  5. We can’t complain that Lpool have been given the title by VAR, if we play games like Norwich, Wolves x2, And the rags. Piss poor season that our displays are now stopping the cheating being uncovered.

This is just one element of some poor decision making from Pep this season, the whole Fernindinho into centre half is a disaster, and Pep believed this was the right thing to do in the summer when we didn't get a centre half we so badly needed. In fact we needed two, Otimendi was 4th choice last season, and was leaving, he should have gone when Vinnie retired and two centre half in whatever the cost. Our midfield is worse off for Ferni not being there, Rodri is ok, and will get better, but it takes a while in the premier league. I don't know if Pep was happy with the lack of spending inn that dept, or agreed with it.

I'll be forever grateful for Pep's efforts for us over the last three season, we have been wonderful, add that to the decade of football we've had provided by our owners has been more than any city fan of any length could have imagined. However, we need to up our game in the transfer market massively, the last two summer windows have been poor, and our squad has got older and in some cases worse.
