The culture of England first, City almost last was established in the Women’s squad before Taylor. Many players have achieved a career high of winning the Euros and good luck to them in making more money abroad or enjoying retirement.

We could probably get a better coach than Taylor but that won’t turn us into title contenders alone. We’ve recruited good players but they will need to bed in as the Club try to make the shift away from having key players spending months in recovery between England tournaments. I loved the Lionesses achievement btw.

Kiera is a fantastic player but IIRC she asked to leave before Taylor was coach. The treatment of Georgia Stanway has been the bigger disappointed for me. The team should have been build around her rather than selecting Georgia as a jack of all trades.
A very good post. It seemed to me particularly early season last year that many of the England players were using us as a rehab centre to get fit for the Euro's. I think a rebuild of the squad was overdue and have said before that it is strange that this has been put in the hands of a very poor manager.

Knowing how professional our club is run on most levels the thought has just occurred to me that perhaps someone was needed to play the bad man in all this. Maybe Taylor has unwittingly been used as the person who was charged with breaking up the established group. If things don't go well in the first few games he will be dispensed with and a proper coach given time to move these younger players forward - or is that just wishful thinking?

Unfortunately I suspect this is wishful thinking! I would have thought if that was the view they were taking a far more sensible approach would be to employ and intelligent, forward thinking individual who had experience of the women's game and a drive to improve the team. Or perhaps I am the one indulging in wishful thinking, of what really should have happened.

A thread on the ‘issues’ in the team at the minute. Could well be ill informed so apologies if so but gives a decent breakdown.

Again just being out and about around Ancoats and seen a couple of the city ladies team, not naming no names
but very downbeat and not looking to talk to anybody, just doing their things and move on, this was not the way a couple of seasons back, it was most of the team in city training gear smiling happy and OK to approach and talk too even photo's,

maybe the club are not fully focus on the ladies team like it was ? maybe COVID-19 hit us and city had to cut their cloths, if city are not paying top wages then i totally understand players moving to get what they feel they are worth

You might be on to something Mr HJ. I know City are usually patient with managers but there will be a fair amount of pressure on Gareth Taylor. Especially now the WSL is more powerful from a commercial perspective on the back of the Euros. Hopefully, Gareth and the team gets us off to a fast start.

. . . . . .

I think we've brought in good players, and a rebuild was due, so I'll reserve my view until we at least start the season at the weekend (yes I know we already did in the WCL, but we were stitched up there imho).
Me,too, cleavers. We have a good few players who, as yet are an unknown quantity in the WSL, but they seem to have 'pedigree' so it's gonna be a few games in before we see whether we are still in with a shout.

And now we have Yui as the latest recruit. It's looking a bit better than the week following Georgia's departure.

Just to add that City Women’s Managing Director, Gavin Makel, is responsible for recruiting players and sorting contracts etc
Hopefully, Gavin has done us proud with the players he has recruited.

Fingers crossed we make a solid start to the season and the new signings bed in fairly early.

Hopefully, the negativity that seems to be a cloud over our Women’s Team is blown away.!

Maybe a positive signing is recruiting another top quality keeper to challenge Ellie for the number one spot. It was a bit tinpot last season watching our third choice keeper, who was clearly injured, trying to make saves behind a defence that was short of confidence.

City already recruited Sandy MacIver. She was Everton number 1, and I think she is good enough to challenge Ellie.

She certainly is. She saved EFC time and time again, particularly in that cup final. She's better than many No1 goalies I've seen in the WSL.
