The OS sez that Yui is the first Japanese player to play for MCWFC, but she's the THIRD to play for the men and women. I can't recall two Japanese players playing for MCFC - unless that Kun Aguero is counted as one! Who are they?
I did a quick search. The two men were Ko Itakura and Ryotaro Meshino who signed for City in 2020 but never played a single game as they were out on loan. Both left in 2022 with the first now playing for Borussia Monchengladbach and the second back in Japan playing for Gamba Osaka.

City already recruited Sandy MacIver. She was Everton number 1, and I think she is good enough to challenge Ellie.
True mate. I was referring to Sandy’s signing as a positive step. We know have 3 good stoppers I think. Sandy and Ellie are brilliant and shot stoppers and make plenty of 1 on 1 saves. We will need these skills this season.

I would also love Steph Houghton to have an injury free season and to anchor a solid defence.

Me,too, cleavers. We have a good few players who, as yet are an unknown quantity in the WSL, but they seem to have 'pedigree' so it's gonna be a few games in before we see whether we are still in with a shout.

And now we have Yui as the latest recruit. It's looking a bit better than the week following Georgia's departure.
Watching that clip of Yui scoring against City last season was painful. Forwards that couldn’t score and that hopeless goalkeeper…………
Don’t know much about her but she looks tiny. Can see her getting seriously clogged by the slow thuggish defenders that inhabit the WSL. Treatment table beckons.

I'm hoping she's one of those players whose low centre of gravity ensure she doesn't get knocked off the ball that her small size might suggest.

Thanks for that. They came and went and ne'er entered by consciousness!

She's 5 feet 2 inches. Sounds tiny, but it may just about be the female equivalent of David Silva in terms of size. She'll need to look after herself, but she'll be able to cause a lot of trouble for the opposition still.

I’ve watched a video on YouTube - compilation of her time at West Ham. The David Silva comparison is very apt. Also similar to Rose Lavelle.
Always looking forward, pacy, strong, a good passer, eye for free kicks…what’s not to like??
Hope that she does the business. Doesn’t appear to speak English so hopefully won’t have to listen to any Gareth Taylor tactical talks.

I haven't heard any reasons for Stanway, Weir and Bronze to move on. They have yet, if they ever will, suggest they have moved because they feel their careers are stagnating. I think stuff might be happening of which we are not privvy.
I have the feeling Georgia was saying something close to this in the linked interview.

On paper…..much better squad than last season. Talented players. Last chance for Gareth Taylor to show that he has what it takes as a coach.
I’m not hopeful - given his track record - and his total failure to become animated and angry on the touch line.
Watches the match with all the energy of Sven Goran Erickson …..and that ended badly.
The Arsenal match - due to the poor standard of the WSL - is a “must win”. The WSL title is decided on the top 4 matches against each other.
Last season Arsenal started by beating Chelsea 3:2 thanks to the lack of VAR - the infamous Beth Mead “goal” that only the officials thought was ‘onside’.
Emma Hayes made no comments about being cheated - and went on to win the WSL. Her worst match in the domestic season was the Continental Cup Final. Still amazed that City won that.
It's encouraging to read your opinion that City's squad is much better than last season's. I confess that I don't know much about your new signings but, given the number of quality players who have departed, this feels like a big statement to make. I hope that you are right. I'm gutted for the WSL that it lost Keira. It absolutely needs a powerful Manchester City.

As for the Conti Cup Final, I felt we started well but that you were the better team over the ninety and fully earned the win. Indeed, given your form during the back half of the season, your narrow loss at Kingsmeadow where your squad clearly felt unlucky to lose, and your deserved win at Wimbledon, I went into The Cup Final with little confidence that we would prevail. Glad we did of course.
