That's bad news
Think they need to look at the standard of pitches, sure a comment was made after the utd arsenal game re the pitch

Yeah it was the Arsenal manager who made that comment but it seemed a bit of a reach to blame the pitch. Mead's ACL happened in the reverse fixture and that was played on the Emirates pitch.

Think the main areas up for discussion around the issue are:

1) Is biology e.g. menstrual cycle playing a part and to what extent? Different specialists have different thoughts on this.
2) Are expectations on how female athletes should train and the areas they focus on compared to male atheltes leaving them more vulnerable to these injuries (e.g. doing more cardio work over strength)
3) Is the growth of the game and the added strain being placed on players being mirrored by an equivalent growth in physio care/resources.

I expect the likely answer is a combo of all of those factors. I just hope we make progress soon because to lose the likes of Putellas, Mead, Miedema, Williamson, Katoto to these injuries all at once is a massive loss to the game, the players and the fans

My 16 year old daughter had ACL reconstruction surgery in late December. Not only was her ACL completely torn, she had both meniscus tears repaired also. Poor kid. She suffered her injury at a school practice (artificial turf pitch) and no one was near her when she went to stop the ball from going out of play. She went to control the ball with the outside of her foot, heard a pop and down she went. Thankfully her recovery is going well, and her range of motion is good. Her surgeon is pleased with how everything is going but advised her it will be late August/early September before she can start playing again.
Aww sounds awful for her. Glad to hear she's recovering well and hope she's playing again soon.

Tragic for the Lionesses and Leah - she is an articulate and intelligent player. With Millie Bright struggling despite what Wiegman has said could this be Steph's last hurrah?

I expect that would rely on Millie Bright staying fit. If Bright and Williamson were both out that would be a lot of experience and leadership gone. Maybe that would result in a callup, possibly...

Hayes said yesterday that it's looking like several weeks for Bright so I'm hoping July is far enough away to give her a shot at playing.

Some injury news on the City front from Taylor's recent press conference. Both Rose McIver and Laia Aleixandri out for the rest of the season. McIver has a problem in the abductor/groin area (Keatings was recalled from her loan) but no details on Aleixandri other than the late collision that forced her off in the Arsenal game. Kennedy & Stokes still on the recovery trail too.

Wonder how many knee injuries there was pre war when women's football was very popular, and with poorer pitches and leather balls

I can't see Wiegmann, despite the comments that 'the door is always open, would pick Steph. I have a feeling that 'words' were passed over the phone when she wasn't picked for the Euros. She hadn't played much and I think Wiegmann wanted players who had match time under their belts, but if Steph gave her a mouthful she might have burnt her boats full stop! It's a shame because since she came back into the MCWFC back four she has been solid, and she has more experience than probably the entire back line Wiegmann could put together. We shall see. I hope she gets the call.

The only way I can see Steph getting back would be the leadership issue IF there is any doubt over Bright not being fit enough. I doubt she'd get the armband back if it did happen with Bronze maybe the likely candidate if Bright isn't.
