Seems like maybe Steph needs to put the voodoo doll down now...

Sounds like a bad one for Williamson, bad for the team too. I expect Wiegman wouldn't call Steph up still, but another injury to any other experienced defender and she could still have a chance.

Devo'd for her and just hoping it isn't another ACL injury. If it's a dislocation there's still hope her playing in the world cup. Would be a disaster to lose both Mead and Williamson for the WC with an injury like that. And also it's just a shame to keep seeing so many top players missing from the big tournaments with ACL injuries.

Really bad for her and as you said, worrying how frequently the injury occurs in the women's game.

There's so many girls playing football now that I expect that more knee specialists may be needed in the near future unfortunately.

Flo Lloyd-Hughes' podcast did a special episode on the subject after Mead did her ACL. It's a really interesting listen and only 30mins. I'd read quite a bit before on it potentially being linked to biology but the doctor on this episode says there could be actually more wider cultural factors at play.

There's actually been quite a lot of talk about knee and especially ACL injuries in the women's game over the last year or so and a quick google search will bring up a raft of articles on it. Some big name players have highlighted the issue more recently with Putellas, Mead etc. all suffering. Still no news about Williamson yet though so hoping for the best for her.

ACL injury confirmed for Williamson. Devastated for her and a big blow for England's WC prospects with Mead already out. Greenwood and Bright should be a fine pairing but Williamson's presence as a leader and captain will be greatly missed. Especially when you factor in the loss of some some of the more experienced players who have retired since the Euros.

And for Arsenal to have lost Miedema, Mead and Williamson to ACLs in one season is horrendous. Would be like us losing Haaland, Bernardo and Dias. Unthinkable.

That's bad news
Think they need to look at the standard of pitches, sure a comment was made after the utd arsenal game re the pitch

My 16 year old daughter had ACL reconstruction surgery in late December. Not only was her ACL completely torn, she had both meniscus tears repaired also. Poor kid. She suffered her injury at a school practice (artificial turf pitch) and no one was near her when she went to stop the ball from going out of play. She went to control the ball with the outside of her foot, heard a pop and down she went. Thankfully her recovery is going well, and her range of motion is good. Her surgeon is pleased with how everything is going but advised her it will be late August/early September before she can start playing again.
