Women's Team Thread - 2022/23

I just saw our Chloe has an advertisement with Calvin Klein. I'm genuinely pleased for her to be getting notoriety and economic opportunities on the back of her football fame. She appears to be a good person and nice young woman who has worked hard for her opportunities.

Another crass post on the City website from the awful Sam Cox. Highlights the “young guns” in the Womens Academy. Talks about Sandy MacIver whilst totally ignoring Khiara Keating and Grace Pilling. No mention of Katie Ramsden either. Ignores their dreadful record in league competition. Seem to have about 7 girls aged 17-18 who have represented England at age group. Test is how many come through to the first team.

@MAG

Will you be creating threads for the upcoming WC?

I'm looking forward to watching matches at stupid o clock.
England v Portugal this afternoon - that's afternoon British Summer Time. Think it's on a BBC channel. No doubt it will be a Ragfest for the commentator, even if they have none starting, but warming the bench!

No doubt GT will be singing their praises and informing us the sky is the limit, as he did with Hayley Raso, and they will be guaranteed at least a show on 85 mins against lower league opposition in one of the cups.

3 of the City Women start and 2 from the rags though 1 of the latter does have the captain's armband in the absence of a couple that would be ahead of her. Personally thought it should've gone to either Greenwood or Bronze being more senior that Earps.

England XI: Earps, Bronze, Walsh, Greenwood, James, Stanway, Daly, Toone, Hemp, Morgan, Carter.

Subs: Roebuck, Hampton, Charles, Wubben-Moy, Coombs, Kelly, England, Zelem, Robinson, Russo, Le Tissier.

Portugal XI: Pereira, Amado, Norton, Borges, J Silva, T Pinto, Dolores Silva, C Costa, Diana Silva, Gomes, Nazareth.

Subs: Morais, R Costa, Alves, Rebelo, Marchao, Jacinto, Rute, F Pinto, Seica, Mendes, Capeta, Encarnacao, Correia.

Oh, & it's on ITV1

I'm fucked off with it and we haven't kicked off yet. I've heard Voice of Football Dogmatism/Bullshite in Aluko, a presentation pre-match and a minutes silence. There's as much politickings in a footy friendly as yer getting at Westminster these days.

Not much quality on display in this England James, aside from Lauren James who is showing the odd touch.

Well, that was as boring a first half as they come. Portugal appear to have little attacking ambition, Earps has had a half that is reminiscent of so many women's games where one goalkeeper has the odd pass back to deal with. England have little venom when it comes to attacking the final third. One of those games where the commentators are seeing a different game to me. All pretty mundane.

Commentators told to big it up make it sound bloody interesting ;)

The US will probably win their third World Cup in a row. Initially it looked like England was closing the gap but the last 12 months have left me sceptical.

They did when Katie Zelem came on but slipped back to WhoTheFuck does Laura Coombs play for? And I've just seen Mary Twerps doing he best to emulate a de Gea howler. It's Keystone Cops goalkeeping!

It this game is indicative of the general level of entertainment and spectacle the crowds they think are gonna flock to the women's fixtures will be much mistaken!

"Alessia Russo doing what she does best!" Er, yeah, missing another one.

In the first half Lauren Hemp had a header from a corner and put it over. The commentator informed us that she had to do better! Nothing like as critical since considering we've had better chances, and easier chances, but certain players are immune to any criticism.

This England side have no cutting edge, forget winning the World Cup.
And there will be better equipped defences than Portugal waiting at the WC. A pretty dismal, ineffectual performance. It's amusing to hear the comments post-match - we need to be quicker, inject more pace into the game - why not instruct them pre-match as to what should be the basics?

And tried to apportion blame to Hemp for the back pass, being a bit too strong ffs

Russo is not quick enough, very hefty.

Give the German, American, French strikers the chances she had last night and I suspect it would have been a comfortable win. With a move to the Arse pending I think she won't have the cubic metres of smoke blown up her arse that she's had whilst she was playing at Leigh!
