Work For Dole

I'll give you an example of a lad I knew at college. He ended up going to Uni and studying Graphic Design and then achieved his goal as becoming a Graphic designer. He worked there for a year but then the company was declared bankrupt and he was made redundant. He immediately went in search of a new job in that field. 3 months later no luck so he signed on because he had no money. Another month later he started applying for retail and office jobs 6 months later no luck. He ended up at an unregulated call centre where his job description was pretty much to scam people, he developed acute anxiety and left and signed back on the dole. He's now moved back in with his parents getting just job seekers, still suffering from acute anxiety and hardly ever goes out to socialise anymore but yeah I'm sure doing some litter picking for a slave wage will restore pride, I'm sure that's just what the doctor ordered. Has he failed the system or has the system failed him?

I was on the dole for a good 3 months at one point, I have a good education and experience in different types of jobs but struggled to get in the door anywhere apart from telesales. I was treated like scum and the job centre and made to do ridiculous degrading things at jobs interviews for poxy jobs like JJB Sports. Another person would of become depressed and given up all together and can you blame them?

The government are happy to enforce this but still won't discuss enforcing a living wage? Instead they force disabled people off their benefits and the working poor lap this up while the rich/elite get off scot free.

Perhaps you don't have the time to do the research but you will understand what this government is trying to do.

i would rather pick up dogshit for £3 an hour than not work at all.

here's an example for you, i got taxed £150 this month which is about 2 days work on my current pay. so I've worked 2 days this month for nothing essentially. i'm a team leader in a call centre, where i worked on the phone for 2 years before getting a promotion, yes it's shit and boring from time to time but i need to pay my bills and my rent. now why the fuck should i pay tax which ends up with someone else who doesn't want to work in JJB sports or another call centre?

there's a lot of people out there that would do anything to have a job at JJB sports, i worked on minimum wage at next for a year and a half before and that's shit, i also lifted bricks all day when i was in between work and i'm not a big guy so it was back breaking at times. i handed out leaflets for a curry house, i did my families gardens up for a bit of cash, i did all sorts so i didn't have to go on the dole or get money from my parents.

there's people that work full time at places like JJB who are paying into the system for these graduate student types who think they are above places like JJB so would rather do fuck all instead.

disabled people (and mentally disabled people) who are proven to be by a doctor, single parents and other people who cannot work are obviously exempt but if a fit and healthy 25 year old who is doing nothing and sitting on his couch all day, then a few hours a week in a local park helping out isn't going to do him any harm.

maybe it's just me, maybe i'm too proud to sit on my arse and take cash.

i'm not saying the tories will do it right, i'm saying i believe that it's a good idea in theory. oh and the rich who are evading taxes want to be held to accounts to, there's a lot wrong with this country at the moment.
Don`t worry about your £150. It`s just bought George and Daves first bottle of wine tonight.
Fucking cheap bastards :)

If its full-time work they should work for a full-time wage, not dole.

Starts and ends there.

If this 'incorrect scheme' does happen then I believe the recipients of the free labour should be small outfits who would prosper the most from free/low cost labour. Big firms should get the longest unemployed. Sick of big companies getting privileges.

When I came out of university in July I spent a month on the dole and I can honestly say it was the most depressing month of my life. Never have I had lower self-esteem. I went from thinking the world was my oyster to thinking I'd be lucky to get any job at all. It's absolutely no surprise to me that with the way the unemployed are treated they spiral into things like depression and societal anxiety. They're not just treated badly by the government, but by family, friends and ordinary people who can make you feel like a burden.

I'm fortunate though, I have decent qualifications, a good mentality and I'm physically able (enough for office work anyway).

I think that people who are long term unemployed deserve support, not derision. True enough, there is that minority who will never work, but they ARE a minority and no scheme will force them into anything. This is a thoroughly demeaning idea tantamount to illegal labour and takes emphasis off the real problems we're currently facing as a society.

I've been on the dole after I was made redundant..job centres are fucking pointless places with people who don't care because they have that many people through the door. It made me lazy and the dole just helped me do fuck all. When I wanted a better life I put my CV all over internet job boards and got a job fairly quickly, in fact over 3 yrs on and I still get calls and emails about job opportunities. In comparison my bro in law hasn't been able to get a job for 3yrs..says he applies but gets nowhere. Maybe people need help writing cv's or help with interviewing techniques I don't know. Not all people are lazy, they just need help to get out of the situation and the mind set that it's impossible to find a job. The lazy ones are easily identifiable.

care to explain why you think that?

i cannot understand what people thinks wrong with it? if you're completely fit, able and sane to work and you haven't done so in 2 years then a bit of community service will do you some good.

if i was in a situation where i couldn't work i'd like to do that, at least i'd feel like i'm contributing and it would get me out of the house.

it obviously needs to be looked at properly and peoples circumstances reviewed.... i said it's a great idea, i didn't say whether the tories will do it right or not.

fantastic idea IMO.

will weed out the lazy fuckers.

obviously disabled people or full time single parents etc etc are exempt though!

I like you Ban but you post some poor stuff concerning politics man.

Fully agree

If (paying)jobs are out there people will do them, simple as that. Right minded people do not like being unemployed, it leaves you skint, demoralised etc. So to think there are people up and down the country who are willing to sit on their arse year after year is rubbish(those that do are the minority)

To expect people to jump on a dole bus a few times a week for £67 is disgusting. People out of work feel bad enough without having to wait at the end of the street for the dole bus.

Also who will drive the dole bus? Will he be a 'worker' on a wage or will the passangers have to take turns in driving?

dole bill is approx 4% of the welfare and pension amount with pensions approx 70% so work out how much your paying, but on 15k its around £2.10 month to the dole not really that much is it but don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant, some people need something to be pissed off about
