World Cup VAR

Been a big critic of VAR and last night was chaos BUT some of that chaos was down to pure bad/weak refereeing.
I do think, however, we are seeing laid bare how VAR could be used to enhance corruption which has always been my biggest fear (especially as a City supporter).

In every game, there are a load of minor incidents go unpunished. There is a pen at pretty much every set piece. People said 'players will stop fouling' . Will they fuck.

Now, at any time, the v.a.r. can suggest to a ref he 'perhaps' should give a pen. Then not bother, in the next game. An honest ref might refuse. A bent one, can create a score or result at any time.& have previously normal people argue it's ok.

Purely because v.a.r. is 'better'.
This sums it up perfectly for me. I'm keen to see some form of VAR used to improve the game but it was always obvious to me that this current system has some pretty major flaws.

It's far too arbitrary and has simply introduced another way for match officials to potentially influence the result. There's just no consistency in how it's applied and that was always going to be the downfall of this version.

I just see it different, the initial elbow in the back then when the Iranian player moves direction Ronaldo then goes again. Yep the Iranian made a meal of it but hey I saw Aguero red carded for less albeit after the match

We are reffed according to Set 2 of the LotG. We are the only team and our players the only ones who have to abide by this set!

Tranny should've walked for the elbow...

Still don't get Shearer being so incensed about the penalty given its not like it was England playing ffs
Was he this pissed off when the penalty was given against Sterling when the ball was hit against his back playing Spurs?
Still doing there best to undermine VAR taking an age to come to a conclusion...

Shearer and the rest of the panel all agreed VAR is the way forward.

Because if it's not there, they can't 'prove' a ridiculous fucking decision is correct. They can't see half of the stuff they are giving. They can guess or be tipped off, & find a foul, at almost every penalty area incident. If it's too obvious, they can just let it go & try again later.

And if it was me who was fixing it, I'd have all of the refs & v.a.r. people in my pocket either by incitement or threat of death, before the tournament.

They didn’t need to prove it before VAR though, they have to more now as everyone can see it. Take last nights game, that is generating more discussion and focus because VAR was used (and I’d be surprised if that VAR team or referee gets another game). It increases the focus and questions, not reduces them.

Add in to that VAR is also there for non subjective decisions such as offside, VAR has increased the amount of correct decisions in this World Cup so far. The logic that it is there to enhance corruption is illogical if you think what was there before.

I personally don’t like it (I readily admit to being a Luddite with these type of things). Not because of conspiracy theories though, more because I don’t think the implications and use of it have fully been thought through.

VAR is just another way to help the officials give the big teams what they want and the rule is clear IT HAS TO BE A CLEAR OBVIOUS MISTAKE BY THE REFEREE. well last night it was clear its not and they are using all the time to change the game and not the mistakes
