Would You drop out of Both Cups for Champs League?

I'd rather win the FA Cup to get a trophy under our belt, then we can ease the pressure and next season go for something better I.E the premier league.
Champs league is along way away for us winning it so that can wait for us taking part until this squad and the manager are singing from the same sheet.

top 4 does not guarantee champions league football, which for me is a concern as we would most likely blow it, so i will go for third but still want the fa cup, oh fcuk it i dont know....

Deano, this is why i'd play the EDS against kiev, the ground will be sparsely populated anyway. I'd rather leave the europa to the celtic's and fulham's and get on with the real competion!
to be perfectly honest and i hope i dont get pelters for this, mancini's european record at inter was nothing special and i feel regardless what he does domestically ie league,fa cup and league cup he wont be able to make any difference at champs league even if we get it imo,and i do like mancini and have just realised ive went off what the thread is actually about oops...back on thread im 50/50 on this i just want to see us win something fcuk me get past reading and we can almost touch the trophy, why cant we have fa cup and champs league...

I have followed the Top 4 mantra throughout and believe this is in the long term of the interest of the club (of course it fucking is)

BUT........ we have a ghost to lay and right now I would be really happy if we won the FA Cup and finished 5th and had to wait another season for CL

As long as we do one of the fucking things and don't miss out all round :-(

EDIT: my lad says CL please!

No we don't ....

Someone ought to do an analysis of who last won what and when ...

CL is the nobrainer ;), but it could still be all three or none ...

Anyone who thinks the club now give a shit about how long it has been since we won a trophy is kidding themselves. We know the future is in our hands and top 4 is imperative to us. A cup will only cure fans desperation. Looking at the bigger picture is far more important.

Nobody is speculating what the club would choose. We all know the answer to that one!

If we don't get the CL THIS SEASON we might not get into it for years to come as our best players will leave I believe and the existing participants get stronger at our expense.

Think about that as the excitement of lifting the FA Cup or Europa Cup starts to wear off in the subsequent months and next season starts with a worse squad.

Our whole business plan is geared up around CL qualification to move the club on tenfold in one step, not a romantic idea that winning the FA Cup for the fans will help remove a banner (they'll just put another up....so feffing what?!)

" I've been following City for X years and I want....blah blah blah"

CL + owners like ours = nothing stands in our way.

FA Cup? Great before the money came in but now we must be aiming a lot higher. A LOT.

Yes or No?

For me,it's a yes.

I'd love nothing more than to win a cup but I can't stress enough the importance of making it to the CL and rubbing shoulders with Europe's elite.

We need to think long term rather than short term.

Champions League all the way for me, at all costs.

we have to, its as simple as that.we need 3rd to be safe to qualify.

Europa yes, FA Cup no. After Sunday we'd only be 2 more games away from winning it. How many more to win the Europa? 6?

pretty naive thinking...

even sheik won't spend his millions for years if he does not get some return. And he won't get it from FA Cup.

Champions League or there are nice chances City won't be anything more than Spurs are now for years.

It's pretty selfish and short-term to wish FA over Champions League and long time stability. Let them build stable team, regular Champions League member and you'll see many FA Cups and titles in the future. Win FA, miss Champions League again and we risk that not to happen soon.

If fans want to see City win one trophy, and it has to be this season, because they simply can't wait a season longer... then I can understand wanting to win the FA Cup or Europa League at the expense of CL qualification. (as is the OP's question)

But if you would like to see City win trophy after trophy in the years to come and still aren't that arsed about qualification this season then I don't get it.

I won't bore people with the FFP regulations but even a basic understanding would leave you with one of the above two choices.

Let's move forward five years. The chances are we won't have won the Champions League. After all Chelsea haven't. Arsenal haven't. And they have both been competing in it for 10 years or more.

What we do need to do is win some silverware. People still remember the Leeds team of the seventies. Won some domestic stuff. Spurs much though we all dislike them have won alot of FA cups.

Although Birmingham may get relegated and their fans will say the League cup doesn't matter, in 20 years when they are still yoyoing the divisions they will have that victory in the record books.

So for me. A cup, and the FA is looking more likely. If we don't qualify for Champs League this year we win the League here next year.
