Would You drop out of Both Cups for Champs League?

Let's move forward five years. The chances are we won't have won the Champions League. After all Chelsea haven't. Arsenal haven't. And they have both been competing in it for 10 years or more.

What we do need to do is win some silverware. People still remember the Leeds team of the seventies. Won some domestic stuff. Spurs much though we all dislike them have won alot of FA cups.

Although Birmingham may get relegated and their fans will say the League cup doesn't matter, in 20 years when they are still yoyoing the divisions they will have that victory in the record books.

So for me. A cup, and the FA is looking more likely. If we don't qualify for Champs League this year we win the League here next year.

We don't need to win it yet!!!!!!! why cant people see that just being in the competition will bring success elsewhere?

You don't have to win Champions League to take all advantages it's offers...

But from the rest of the post I can see that you're pretty much desperate to win something so you can "show" it to someone so I pretty much doubt you're able to look at things more deeply.

Maybe Cobwebcat's could help:

I won't bore people with the FFP regulations but even a basic understanding would leave you with one of the above two choices.

Any other year I would say Yes but this year I want us to win the FA cup for Nelly.

If we don't get the CL THIS SEASON we might not get into it for years to come as our best players will leave I believe and the existing participants get stronger at our expense.

Think about that as the excitement of lifting the FA Cup or Europa Cup starts to wear off in the subsequent months and next season starts with a worse squad.

Our whole business plan is geared up around CL qualification to move the club on tenfold in one step, not a romantic idea that winning the FA Cup for the fans will help remove a banner (they'll just put another up....so feffing what?!)

" I've been following City for X years and I want....blah blah blah"

CL + owners like ours = nothing stands in our way.

FA Cup? Great before the money came in but now we must be aiming a lot higher. A LOT.

not a whole host of clubs can afford to our players. And really, aside from Kompany, De Jong, and Silva (who seems like he indeed likes it here), at the end of the day, could you really be arsed if anyone else fucked off? There have been better players before them and there will be better after them.

Yes I could be arsed and you would too if you realised the difference they made and the implications and long term damage it would do to our club if they went.

One player (like Tevez) can make a big difference. Our time to get into the CL and grab the cash is limited because of the FFP regulations and it's these same players you don't rate that have got us to the last 8 of the FA Cup in the first place.

Hart?
AJ?
Micah?
Tevez?
Pablo?

just like to know what doors the cl has opened for spuds cos i dont see theyve attracted to much inthe way of top class players and the cash it generates is not to important to us.also if we ended up 4th then didnt win the qualifying round and sacrificed the fa cup in sustaining 4th place i would be pretty sick.
