Thank you for posting this.

Everything you stated above as the criteria for a "holistic model based city manager " well..you are describing rafa Benitez....he ticks all the boxes...and especially this..

<a class="postlink" href="http://sabotagetimes.com/reportage/liverpool-nextgen-stars-ready-to-step-up-thanks-to-rafas-revolution/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://sabotagetimes.com/reportage/live ... evolution/</a>

if you wnat more information of Rafa the holistoc manager..type in liverpool academy by rafa benitez....and you will find a lot more..LFC play 4-2-3-1 from under 10-first team..

By the way Rafa won his 10th trophy tonight, he has also lost 5 finals and a runner up in the PL, so that would have put him alongside Mourinho trophy haul..and above guardiola...without being at a club that have spent, chelsea, city, madrid , utd, kind of money ( no penny spent at inter milan mourinho drained that cash cow, and only 7 ,million on BA at Chelsea while he has been there.

He is a high quality manager, but you guys have pelegrini so maybe he can win something for you although nothing in 9 years so far !

2006–08 Confrontation with new owners

Following Benítez's great early success, the English media were predicting Liverpool would challenge Chelsea for the 2006–2007 Premier League title after Benítez addressed Liverpool's perceived weaknesses in the transfer window, a belief reaffirmed after his side won the Community Shield with 2–1 victory over Chelsea. The title challenge fizzled out early in the season with Liverpool's poor form away from Anfield leading to speculation Benítez's tenure at Liverpool was short-lived, with his agent quoted as saying Benítez would consider offers to manage in Italy.[9] Benítez swiftly issued a statement through the club's website re-affirming his desire to remain with Liverpool for the long term.[10] In January, Benítez's side lost twice in four days to Arsenal in both domestic cup competitions, the 6–3 defeat in the League Cup was Liverpool's heaviest home defeat since 1913. Despite the poor domestic performances, Liverpool fans remained supportive to Benítez.

Supporters and manager joined together to welcome new owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks, with the hope the new owners would bring funding for new players and a new stadium. Gillett declared himself delighted with the manager of his new investment as Benítez overcame his domestic difficulties to lead Liverpool to another Champions League final. After Liverpool again defeated Chelsea in the semi-final, this time on penalties, Gillett stated "Rafa has been tremendous ... We knew of him but I don't think we realized how good he was, and not just as a coach. Not only was he a brilliant coach but he is a very sharp, savvy businessman. He knows what he wants and how to get it. The more we have seen of him the more impressed we have become."[11] Benítez did not reciprocate his owner's kind words, demanding his club's new owners had to back him in the transfer market in order for Liverpool to progress following his side's 2–1 loss to AC Milan in the final.[12] It was reported Benítez did not feel he had the complete support of the new owners, a thought that was compounded by Liverpool's initial lack of activity in the transfer window, although the club played these rumours down.[13]

Benítez's spending was, eventually, significant, breaking Liverpool's transfer record when signing Spanish striker Fernando Torres from Atlético Madrid as well as signing Ryan Babel, Yossi Benayoun, Lucas Leiva and Andriy Voronin. Among those Benítez sold was Craig Bellamy, who was notably phased out of the first team following an altercation with John Arne Riise in the build up to Liverpool's remarkable victory over Barcelona in the Camp Nou en route to the Champions League final[14]

Liverpool made a good start to the 2007–2008 league season, topping the Premier League table for the first time under Benítez after a comprehensive 6–0 win over Derby County. Despite this, poor results in the Champions League and a disagreement over future transfers lead to a public falling-out with the club's owners, played out in the media at the end of November. It was suggested that Benítez's position was now under serious threat. The resulting coverage resulted in a show of support by fans in support of Benítez which culminated in a fans' march in support of Benítez ahead of the critical Champions League home tie with Porto, which they won 4–1.[15] It later emerged Jürgen Klinsmann was offered Benítez's job, before accepting the post of Bayern Munich manager. Such a revelation damaged Benítez's relations with the Americans, with constant rumours linking the Spaniard to Real Madrid.[16] However, Benítez insisted his future was at Liverpool and signalled his long-term intentions by appointing Sammy Lee as his new assistant[17] to replace his long-time right-hand man, Pako Ayestarán, who quit after a reported disagreement, which Benítez admitted "hurt" him and arguably Liverpool's titles hopes.[18]

Benítez was unable to win any trophies, Liverpool's domestic campaign faltering in the winter months – including a shock FA Cup exit at home to Barnsley – and his side this time lost to Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals. Despite the lack of silverware, the main talking points were off the pitch, with Benítez in the middle of a power struggle between the Liverpool board

Something City's board will not want to see at this present time. For the short term he is a decent appointment though.

So basically you would not want your manager fighting and ousting 2 thieving owners who are raping your club and bankrupting it through financial mismanagement..you do not wnat your manager to speak the truth and inform supporters how the legacy that want to pass onto the children and grandchildren (their football club) is in serious financial trouble because of 2 potless owners..who are borrowing money from the banks to keep funding the club , when they promised it will be all their money ..!!!

Come on mate Gillett and hicks episode is not a stick to beat Rafa with..look at Ferguson ..UTD in 400 million debt..on borrowed money ( can finance it because of their revenue) but did you hear anything from fergie !!!

Your club holds him in high regard so you are bound to have a biased view. No doubts he is a good manager but isn't high on our list.

Spot on..got it one...I agree..

also I am always suspicious when clubs bring in people anr managers that wnat to implement philosophies..we have it at Anfield through Brendan Rodgers..First it was Swansea, then Barca , and now dortmund..fcukin hilarious..what happened to the LFC philosophy..

Same situation here what happened to Man City's 100 year philosophy....

Its just "fashionable football speak " Football is about winning matches, entertainment, and if a club with competent mangers and players , then trophies...

Go to transfer league website or something..and get his investment tenure by net...you will have your answer about money..Mancini has spent 231 million net in 3 years...Rafa spent 60+ million net over 6 seasons..if you include the fernando transfer to Chelsea and mascherano transfer to barcelona..(both sold after he left but players he bought) he will be on negative investment !!!

If he is not on your list..Then he should be and your board are clueless..purely my opinion..!!

I am not convinced by the net spend view on transfers. Another facet of his management style will not go down to well is Benítez has developed a reputation in English football as a hard man to please and seems to adopt one size fits all approach, which sounds like Mancini. What might be different is Rafa doesn't criticise players in public.

No no and thrice no. Rafa is not wanted here.

Why? Are you going to be like one of those idiots at Chelsea who boo him and sing Rafa out and what not? He made the Chavski fans look like right mugs and deep down he fucking knows it and loves it!

He's my number one choice, proven track record in Europe and this country, hates the rags ad most importantly, and I mean this, he has a huge rapport with the fans. Look at how he speaks about Liverpool now, given the chance he can be like that for us and that would drive him to more success. He's one of the best managers in the world and managed a hard group of players. He's not scared to drop the more senior players in the squad and he's turned David Luiz into a world class player.

My man for the job, Pellegrini has a good record but questions about his English as well as the fact he's not managed in England before has me concerned.

Another trophy for Rafa. Hopefully the club is secretly considering him as our new coach. He clearly knows how to work with big name players and is a proven success. I jus don't know enough about Pellergrini to make me confident that he's the right man.

Personally, if we're taking about having him as a complete, traditional manager with control of all classic manager functions, then yes I'd certainley have him here. Failed at Inter, with Mancini's team ironically, but he's been successful, VERY successful in fact, everywhere else. Look what happened to Liverpool once he left. Valencia too are nowhere near what they were when he was in charge. With a big transfer budget, I think he could be absolutely perfect for us.
He's outspoken and confrontational yes, but so was Mancini. It's passion. But like it's been mentioned before, Txiki and Ferran don't seem to want that sort of character.

Some sensible comments above after the Manciini nonsense of the past few days. As I said on Monday, he and his family like being around the NW and he has Prem League knowledge and a great European record, the former being my only concern about Pelli. But it seems like the board have decided and so there it is.

Interesting to see where Rafa ends up next as he definitely had a little spring in his step last night. And good on him for confronting the yanks whilst Fergie took the cash and engaged in Florida felatio.
