The problem is that no matter how good a band is nowadays, you will never be able to replicate the experience of hearing something brand new. I think when people moan about there being no good bands nowadays, what they're looking for is something that reminds them of what they already know and yet is also as revolutionary as those bands when they first came out, which is obviously impossible. And naturally, when some genuinely new and revolutionary stuff comes out, it's so unfamiliar that it's dismissed as "not proper music" which is ironically probably what their parents said about the bands they liked when they were kids. How many times have you heard whole genres like grime, hip hop or electronic be completely dismissed by people above a certain age?
