Yaya Toure - 2017/18 performances

We probably can afford it tbh.
Yep, just need Dinho to play every minute unless we're 3 goals to the good including avoiding any suspensions. Either that or expect zero rotation at left back and on the wings.

Let's see how he goes if he gets a run in the team before writing him off. One thing is for sure though, he is one of the top half dozen or so greatest players ever to play for Manchester City !

Correct but those who want to spoil a good night just cannot resist.

Only some city fans can see their team win 4 nil to break the record for most consecutive wins and start and contribute to a thread to slag off a legend.

Fucking disgraceful

Yes mate, we can get back to talking about one of the finest players to ever wear our shirt and whether we can cope with keeping him in a squad place until the end of season or can we not afford to be sentimental?

One of the all time greats and I am very happy in the knowledge that pep will use him when he sees fit. This extra year he got as long as it stays trouble free will be a good move by all.

Spoil a good night? Most of us are acknowledging what a great player he was but accept that those days are gone. Nothing more nothing less.

What for though and why exactly.

It is like a negative spin has to be put on every game.

What does it prove? We all know yaya is a squad player now.

No one forces you to participate in a thread, just chill and read others.

I know you started the thread but surely you did it expecting and possibly wanting reactions.

Yaya is a legend and with things like cake gate has split fans.

Well done though.

Yaya has a role in the squad. His role is to come on when we are three goals to the good and we want to control the game by playing keep ball. The box to box lung buster runs are not going to happen. Bulldozing his way through an entire team is not going to happen. Rapier through balls are not going to happen- not too often anyway. But recycling the ball, playing one touch passes that grind the opposition down and making them chase shadows is something he can do as well as any.

I don’t expect that role will justify another contract extension, but he definitely has a place for the time being.

That’s why Pep plays him, really.

I liked some of his Rondo stuff tonight, coming on as sub after long stretches on the bench his touch/pass is gonna be rusty.

Not sure why we would let Yaya leave in January , we would probably have to pay the remainder of his contract anyway , his big game experience and presence around the club has got to be a positive , the only downside is Foden is not getting a chance from the bench , but Foden has got a good few years ahead of him , whilst Yaya will be on his bike at the end of the season , so lets treat the big man with some respect and give hima send off similar to Zabs.

Great, so he's only useful when we're 3 goals ahead against a poor side? He stole a bench spot from Foden and Diaz tonight, either of whom could have used the game time and would have been better options if we'd needed someone to come on who could have made a difference.

They could not have come on and replaced Dinho.

If we keep winning games it's gonna be a bloody long season. Also if we get unlucky with injuries he could be one of the first names on the team sheet. I think he'll bust a gut for us when he really needs to. He's 'old' but special so save him for best.

That was all engineered by Yaya’s “agent,” rather than Yaya himself, in The hope of trousering himself a very large percentage of one last big payday

This season has just proved what we could have had for the last 3/4 seasons if we’d had a manager with the guts to put the ‘team’ before individuals who selected players based on merit rather than sentiment/big names.

People said we couldn’t replace Yaya, people said we couldn’t control possession without Yaya, people even said we should keep Yaya and replace Silva - 3 years on and I’m still laughing at each and every single one of you, there’s a fair few on this thread alone.

Many people say he played a pivotal role last season helping us to get 4th spot.

Hopefully this can at least spend a day or so on the main forum before moving to player thread.

Love the guy, so many moments of greatness, but has anyone ever seen such a rapid decline in a player’s performance levels?

It really is quite astonishing how he struggles to move his legs now, only been on the pitch 5 mins but still can’t raise more than a jog, lmao.

Think Jan is time to say goodbye, IMO.
What a player he has been for us....
I used to dread how we would replace him or fair without him. Doesn’t appear to be a problem so far....

I dare say if that was the case, Jesus and Sane would still be ahead of Foden or Diaz, so they wouldn't have got on the field...

I didn’t criticise him last season (well after his return to the team) because he had clearly put the effort in. I personally think he was still detrimental to the team because of his lack of mobility which stifles our press and ability to regain possession as quickly and efficiently as we’ve seen this season but you can’t criticise players if they’re trying their best.

This season he’s seemingly back to the Yaya of the last 3/4 years (excluding the above) who is lazy, can’t be arsed and looks like he doesn’t give a flying fuck. I’m the best part of 17st and a very similar age and I genuinely I think I could outrun Yaya over any distance just because he couldn’t be arsed after 5 minutes.
