Anyone think we could be a better side without Yaya in it, but replacing him with the right player(s)?

No, not at all. Despite what is being said on here there is no way we will get more £35M + for Yaya in these circumstances, so we would have to spend more than we get for him to replace him, with probably a worse player. Given our ffp transfer cap and our need for a centre back and a defensive midfielder, as well as a back up to Joe, then we would be struggling to make everything happen

We could really do with keeping him for one more season, and then replacing him next summer.

I don't watch A LOT of European football, but off the top of my head I can't really think of anyone that I would bring in that can get anywhere near to replacing him. He dictates play, scores goals and frightens the life out of the opposition.

My question was more angling at, could we sell him and bring in one or two that can help fill the void which would see us 'as strong' as last season

I don't know who is available but a front 6 of the below would still see us looking fairly strong, especially when you add in a top class centre half

Vidal Fernandinho

Silva Nasri

Aguero Dzeko

Re: Yaya Toure

You can't replace Yaya like for like and become a better team. There simply isn't anyone as good as Yaya at what Yaya does.

You can however, buy world class players with different attributes and shape the team slightly differently, and still be more than good enough to win titles.

That would be the case with players like Vidal, Pogba, Fabregas. It's not about having the best individuals in certain roles, but building a system of good players good enough to beat teams around them. Swap Yaya for Cesc, for example, link him with Fernando, Fernandinho, Nasri, Aguero & Silva and it's still one of the best attacking midfields around.

You just adapt, those thinking we will somehow implode or be hugely worse off without him are just, wrong. You don't need to have the best 25 players in the world, you just need to be good enough to beat what is in front of you over the course of a season. There's a huge difference.

If he plays for us next season I wont be celebrating anything he does.

That's just plain fucking daft mate.
If he bangs in a hat trick in front of the $tretford End, then he can have a go on Mrs Fetlocks as far as I'm concerned.
Not that he'd want to, but the offer would be there.

Fuckin' sell out :-)

I've got loyalty issues probably that's where i'm coming from.

PS...I hope you've asked Mrs Fetters if she wouldn't mind joining in your cellaresque type celebrations.

I'll be going mental as usual, but I'll be whispering '****' under my breath.

North of 40 million pounds. Although it's not been confirmed by anyone, I've been told that City have already rejected 35 million pounds from PSG.

I'm not doubting your info but that sort of money for a 31yr old is (virtually?) unheard of. £35M for a 31yr old player who wants to go would be a great bit of business imho.

I think ultimately for City this will be as much about perception as anything else. A headline fee will mean rather than the narrative being Toure forced a move that in fact City got an offer they couldn't refuse and thus sold him.

I also think if we're talking about Monaco and PSG as potential suitors both clubs have shown a willingness to pay way over the odds to secure a player. In an FFP driven climate City will expect stupid money for a player who has just finished the season as arguably the best midfield player in the world, even if he is 31.

Totally agree... and when pundits are saying he 'IS' the best in the world on his day (Souness & Redknapp)... Yaya starts to believe his own press and then starts to bellyache about being undervalued, lack of recognition (PFA & Writers)...

Yes. You'd have to change the system a bit as there's no like-for-like replacement but I think we could be a better team without him, we'd certainly be more able to implement a high pressing game.

Ultimately we'll have to learn to live without Yaya whether it's next season or in three years' time. If Txiki and Pellers think we're ready to do it now, they'll sell, if not, he'll stay.

Re: Yaya Toure

Andriy Shevchenko joined Chelsea for £30.6m in 2006, he was just shy of his 30th birthday.

It depends on PSG as I believe they would be the only team that Yaya would consider who would be willing to pay both the transfer fee and wages.

This sale is not a fait accompli...
