It's the kind of thing my brother (who's a rag) would say. "Haha look you're complaining about Toure but trying to sign Benatia who's doing the same thing". As I say to me it's bollocks. Fundamentally there are zero sporting reasons for Toure to leave City. I could name a dozen sporting reasons for Benatia to leave Roma ...

Seriously? So Benatia would come to City for less money to win trophies?

Its nearly always about money. If a player feels he can get more elsewhere he will try it on. Yaya has done it Benatia has done it. The only difference is the cake and that we support City.

Quite clearly both are to do with money, the difference is one is at a club challenging for top trophies, and the other isn't.

You can forgive someone for leaving to join a better team where the chance of winning trophies are higher, but its hard to forgive someone leaving a club that has just won the domestic double and getting paid £200k to go where? There aren't many better places to be than at City at the moment, I can think of at least 10 clubs id rather be at than Roma, no offence to them of course :)
To be fair, PSG have a decent chance to win the CL as do we.

It's nearly always about money to the extent that the further up the footballing food chain you move, the more money you get. But generally there's sporting reasons tied into it as well.

Like I said ... what you're saying is the kind of argument that a non City supporter would level at a City supporter in a situation like this so I'm a little baffled as to why you're doing it. Unless you think Roma have more chance of winning the Serie A and the CL than we do of winning the PL and the CL, then you have to accept that Benatia's reasons for moving will be as much about football as they will be about money.

Your argument that anyone that sees the similarities must not be a City supporter (by implication) is a strange one.

Benatia has even revealed his specific wage to the press. I'm sure City would be delighted if our players all did that. There's no difference to me, but then I'm not offended by either....just amused by the double standards as a few have spotted.

All this disrespect nonsense is like a scene from GoodFellas.

And Roma just finished second in Italy and are in the CL...they're not Darlington.

There's no double standards. If you don't see that I can't help you.

For respect ... well maybe you should watch Khaldoon's interview again from the other week. You'll get a good idea of what is important to Abu Dhabi.

My argument that only non City supporters would bring up supposed similarities is based on a lifetime of experience with non City supporters and their capacity post the takeover to take any excuse to sneer at the club or it's supporters. Y'know, like laughing at supposed double standards or mocking people for being genuinely fucked off with Toure.

EDIT:

Haha. Just seen your location. Think we'll leave this conversation here.

I think you might be letting those life experiences cloud your judgement.

Listen its a City forum we are bound to be biased. It doesn't make anyone less of a City fan to point out the obvious similarities between the two.

I can almost guarantee that Roma fans are equally upset (correctly) at Benatia revealing how much he has been paid and that its his dream to play for us.

Benatia might be making the same statements to leave us in couple of years time.

Neither situation is scandalous but very similar.

No. For the final time. There's nothing similar about Toure wanting to leave because ... well he just wants to leave. And Benatia, a player who's never won a major title in his life at 27 years old wanting to move to a club where he has a better chance of winning the big things. The only similarity is that both players want to leave. I really don't understand why this very simple concept is proving so difficult for you to grasp. But anyway I leave you with the final word.

Re: Yaya Toure

A player like Yaya won't be able to play at this sort of level beyond 2-3 seasons so this was always a problem we were going to have to face at some point. If we sell to PSG we get rid of an unhappy player and it's unlikely we'll end up playing them.. Better to them than to Chelsea.

Sell for £40m and buy Pogba. That would have the added bonus of infuriating the rags.

Things could be worse.. At least we don't need a complete overhaul for loads of players.. For many years to come we can just sign a few gallacticos to freshen it up

So a player revealing to the press how much he is paid is fine. OK.

He doesn't just want to leave. He wants more money.

Every discussion doesn't have to be an argument.

Thanks for the final word...I didn't realise we were married!

That's the point i made before mate, you can almost forgive someone for leaving for a better club as you have the comfort of thinking 'he wanted to leave to win trophies'

Almost like when we sold SWP to Chelsea, we were all gutted but he had been distracted by the fact a top English club wanted him

I don't think you can forgive someone who wants to leave the champions of England when they are already getting paid £200K a week

Like i said where do you go from City if its not just about money?

Benatia and Toure are totally different situations

Re: Yaya Toure

I will not mind so much had he mentioned Real Madrid or Barcelona or Juventus or Bayern and said it will be honour to play for them. but PS fucking G? Who are those shites?

Supposing you could get Rodwell fit, would any of you see him & Fernandinho as a good enough duo? As in, no replacement for Yaya if he left.

I managed to cram two hypotheticals in there but I'm just curious to see where you all sit regarding Rodwell, and City's overall strength which I believe is such that you wouldn't need to dash out and buy a Pogba or Fabregas.

Alright mate :-)
I think he is a fine player and would have a role to play in rotation defo.
Problem is we look at him and think "but i just can't, with the best will in the world here, trust his body to hold up"
You just can't afford the squad place now when your looking to try and win every trophy. It sounds harsh but it is the hard reality of it.
